Anyone been to the Holland & Holland "shooting cinema"?

I've been spending (wasting...) some time over Christmas watching some videos of continental driven hunting. In one episode they were in the "Schiesskino" or shooting cinema, which got me wondering...

Anyway, it seems the only one over here is at Holland and Holland and it's bookable by the hour. Has anyone ever been, and how did you find the experience? Particularly if you were a novice to that type of shooting and made use of one of their instructors/coaches...

As a keen clay/game shooter and stalker who has done a number of SA and Namibian hunts next bucket list, driven boar. So having dithered for a year I went on my first hunt to Turkey via a post on SD. Being a firm believer in practice and prep, I booked a session at H&H shooting cinema. You can take your own rifle and fire your own rounds or borrow their kit, I opted to borrow a Thumbhole Beretta straight pull in 308. The whole thing is excellent, they show a screen circa 20 yds in front of you, in the film you will get to shoot at running boar at different angles, speeds and distances. When you fire the screen freezes then the kit puts a red dot on the screen showing where your bullet would have struck ( Hopefully somewhere near the boar) . I found it really good as it’s the first time I had fired a rifle at a running object. Also you get an instructor who in my case was excellent. Being H&H it’s not cheap but neither is driven boar, well worth it IMHO

I've been twice (once as a guest, and once to return the favour). Both times were excellent, although the first time was noticeably better due to having a really decent instructor. I tool my own rifles. Bring a 22.lr if shooting alot! There are varied scenarios, driven boar and many african scenes and I found the whole thing brilliant. IIRC it was £180 for three of us.

It's an excellent facility, and the hour comes with an instructor, who will help as much as you want him to.

The screen is only at 25m, but they can run very simple shooting scenario's, to very difficult, replicating both short, and longer distances. They can change the video as often as you want.

I was there a few weeks ago, and they charge £165.00 p/h for one person, additional people are charged at an extra £25.00 p/h, so two people £190.00, three £215.00.

You won't need a second rifle, with two, or three of you, the cooling system is good, but take plenty of ammunition, competent shots, can run through 40+ rounds, especially if they are trying to replicate driven, cycling, and shooting quickly.

I have used at least twice the one using laser or similar in Paris that is/was on Boulevard Raspail. With both a dedicated plastic rifle and plastic shotgun. But with the actual thing that projects the shot on the screen being able to be mounted on your own rifle. I don't know if the Holland's one is the same "species". A good simulator as in Paris is an excellent tool and tells you a lot. However some are little better than arcade type shooting games.

I've also seen but not used the Army ones that existed in the 1970s. These used live ammunition I think with a .22LR adapter fitted into a 7.62mm SLR? If the Holland's one is like that I cannot make useful comment as I haven't used that type. I have however at a French hunting show used the plastic bulleted ammunition in 7x64 on running boar in a Sauer 100 and Sauer 400. The boar was a full size on a trolley like the range at Bisley.

I believe Paul Hill at Corinium Does running boar instruction and he’s a lot nearer to you.

@HME

They main issue with Corinium is the weather this time of year, as it outdoors. The shooting can be very repetitive, unless you can ask to shoot at different distances, speeds, and also shoot from angles.

Lat time I went, it was £80.00 p/h for a single shooter, + 50% for a second, but I just looked, and for non members, that has risen to £140.00ph week days, £150.00 p/h weekend, but it doesn't mention additional shooters.

That sounds quite expensive. When I’m in Germany I use my local range (10 minutes drive from where I stay ) which has a trap and skeet area and an indoor running boar range. There’s also a indoor handgun range too ( currently being upgraded for use in February) and several standard indoor 100m ranges ( standing shots at static targets, prone shooting and bench rest for zeroing purposes) All have interactive computer screens that enable you to manage your shooting results and data.
The running boar range is not charged by time on the range. but rather by the number of times you send the running boar 🐗 past you. I normally use the running boar range and pay €10 for 10 shots, I do that every week to keep my hand in during the season.
Often there’s a few of us that book it together in advance and it’s a bit of a nice social meeting point on a Thursday afternoon after work. Coffee and cake afterwards and plan our next hunting outings for the weekend.
To use the bench rest range or the prone or standing ranges it’s €10 for 30 minutes.
It’s good because it promotes good shooting skills and all the money goes into the management and maintenance of the range which is run by the local German federal state hunting department.
Kindest regards, Olaf

Great venue, went before a trip and had a great time. Would definitely recommend visiting before safari or boar.
Here are some short clips of the cinema being used by us. I should have taken more really. The scenarios go from simple to quite difficult. We took a .308, a .375, a .416 and two .458s between us and probably shot 50 rounds of full power ammo each over 2 hours so 150 to 200 in total. We did use the barrel cooler a lot!! The only other thing I would add is that you do need to have a low power scope. The .308 had a 3-12 and it was too much even turned right down to 3x

I spoke to someone who had a buffalo training session there and was very impressed. Said he learnt some very useful skills.

I called and the man who answered the phone was probably new but didn't seem to know much about it, so I never went in the end. Would like to some time tough.

There is also a very good one at Maddington Farm owned and run by Jeremy Thornton. Not sure what the cost of his running Boar site is as I have only used his sighting system for a check before a trip which is £40 an hour, seems expensive but well worth it as it from inside with electronic target readers.

Great feedback folks, thanks, I'll definitely get a session booked. Is an hour slot enough between 2 or 3 people?

I took my 308 to a range yesterday as a guest and got some practice in shooting offhand... More of that required before I'm ready for the moving targets, I think, but still after 30 rounds at a mix of 50 and 25 meters I was feeling more confident. And having a lot of fun.

I used to go to the one at the back of Landvetter air port. They had a drop in on Tuesday evenings. I 've been to one that's about 45 mins from my house. I've shot up to 70 rounds in a half hour session.
Very good practice for driven hunts.
Yesterday I got my Gaim shooting simulator up and running again after about a year of it laying idle. Gaim is another way of improving you driven shooting skills.
