Advice on replacing scope

Morning,
I have a Zeiss Conquest DL 3-12x50 on my .17 HMR but nearly all my shooting is in the 50-70yds area and so its a little too much for me (parallax is default 100m?)

What would be a fixed magnification quality replacement for this, more suited to my rimfire?
I love the quality of the glass so would look for a good quality 8x50 in a similar price bracket

Many thanks

Most if not all of the quality fixed mag scopes will have parralax fixed at 100m as well .
Some of the newer zeiss vari power scopes and maybe others have adjustable parralax down to 50m so it might be worth looking at them .

I understand the thinking around fixed mag scopes but given the quality of the variable mag scopes now in the mid range price points why not have the flexibility. Most of my 17 HMR shots on rabbits is at sub 70 yds but now and then take on a 120 yard shot 6-12 or 6-15 perfect Same with my stalking rifle walk round with it on 8 for most shots but handy to be able to go to 16 or 18 when required

What scope do you use for this? What about parallax? Is a scope with adjustable parallax possible in 'mid-range' or just not bother??

If your not happy with your current scope that has a fixed parralax at 100m there's no point in buying a fixed 6x42 or 8x56 scope as they will have a fixed parralax at 100m as well.
That hawke frontier that Cc91 has for sale is worth considering

Or the S&B 8x56 or 7x42 can't go wrong. An excellent secondhand buy.

I use the 8x56 on the deer stalking rifle and use if for shots from 30 yards without any problem at all. I sometimes would prefer a bit less magnification for close shots in woodland.

I have an athlon talos 4-14x44 on my 1517 and It's pretty much perfect..
You can never have enough magnification!
The hmr is capable of up to 150m shots in the right conditions so best to have a scope to match that ability

I really rate the 8x56 S&B, a top stalking scope. However a .17HMR is about small targets and precision, hitting a rabbit in the head each time. You would be better with a higher magnification than 8x for longer shots and an adjustable parallax for closer shots. Something like a 4-16x50 SF would be best in my opinion.

Hi team,
I have got hold of two scopes (both S/H) to check out my preference:
- Swarovski Habicht 8x50 (30mm tube)
- Hawke Frontier 3-15x50 SF: FFP Mil Pro (illuminated, 30mm tube and practically brand new)

First thoughts (not mounted so not used in the field yet) are:
- Habicht has fantastic glass and is very easy view. Still got that parallax set at 100m I guess, but I do like it
- Hawke has parallax adjustment so that part goes away, and still very good glass. However it seems that my head/eye position has to be exactly right, not as forgiving as Habicht?
Is there a technical term for that??

So now its the 8x versus up to 15x as well as the parallax. I also prefer the 4A reticule as well.
The Hawke is a lovely scope but for bashing squirrels I am not sure its a bit much!
