Out last night.

Guys can I ask a question of the Zulu guys, what rail are you using on your centrefires and what is the field of view like many thanks
35 moa - with this mount the reticle is very slightly left of centre on base mag - 5x - but centres perfectly beyond that.
Obviously the lower the mag the wider the FOV - like Smelly I use 5x and zoom if required. 5x is also best for the rangefinder function.

Used to use 40gns Vmax in the triple deuce many years ago KB but found them to be a bit too explosive so moved to 50gns Vmax trundling along at just north of 3100 fps - utterly devastating bullet on foxes. Never went back….

Brrrr 🥶🥶🥶. It was cold ! I baited a couple of pipes the last couple of days. Yesterday the weather was absolutely foul so I spent the day at home, warm fire, Sunday Times, SD etc… I ventured out today wrapped up in my ex Austrian
Army pullover and a pair of Micklagaard lined trousers. Feck, I could still feel the cold, the wind didn’t help.
At 1810 a fox darted out of a wood to cross a track and I was convinced to setup shop for a while.
There are moments when you question your sanity, mine are becoming more frequent 👀.
Anyhoo, the wait started. It’s been a point of constant amazement for me how my wife’s phone call to enquire when I shall be home coincides with a fox appearing over the parapet so to speak. Honest to God, fox appears and the phone starts ringing. Ok, Charlene was 200 + yards away but, but . This timing coincides with the news ending on TV at 7 pm.
A hurried, brief and somewhat curt conversation ensued. “ well you don’t have to be rude” ! 🦊💥, job done. Tucked it away from the bait pipe aways and set off home. Windchill was making it -6C, one hour was enough.

After being stuck in the house all day yesterday because of the snow I was desperate to be out tonight.
Arrived at the farm around 6ish and immediately spotted a heat source in some cover at the bottom of the 1st field , turned out to be a roe but I kept scanning and was surprised by a fox coming up the next field . Quickly got on sticks , ir on only to find fox coming straight at me only 20 yards away , as I shot it moved right handed and I missed. Thought that's that and couldn't believe it was still in field around 70 yds away , this time no mistake and a small vixen was taken.
Walked a few more fields only seeing roe so headed back to initial field to try a call.
I got myself settled on a pile of rubble on the bipod which was a bit uncomfortable .As I tried to get comfortable and playing with the ir and focus I couldn't believe it there was a pair of foxes at the bottom of the field. I watched them for a few seconds hoping they would come into the open , which they did . The dog fox was shot at 121 yds , the vixen ran another 10 yds and was shot at 132 yds.
Well pleased as would have been happy just seeing 1 ..never dreamed of seeing 3 and shooting 3. Great start to 2025

Another 2 this evening first one at 5.30pm on my free range unit v big vixen.
Quick drive down to another perm lambing just about to start. Courting brace in a field surrounded by thick hedges and few gates. 1 hr cat and mouse as they sought shelter ithe thick hedges. Clearly a dog following a Vixen. They were racing about then resting in the hedges. Eventually one offered a chance and a big dog fox caught a 39 BK in the engine room. So Vixen to get. That's the 4th off this place in a week. 2 dogs 2 vixens.

Very nice conditioned foxes

Out tonite in search of the mate of the fox I shot last week. Called for 40 mins with the Icotech 500 (for a change) but nada so as it was freezing I turned for home. Walked 20 yards and tried the Axion again and clocked a fox way up the hillside - 400 plus, so on with the Icotech again - definite interest but lost it two gorse hedges away even though scanning all the while - bugger!
Hung on as it had closed a field before I lost it and switched to mouth call, then in desperation handsqueak and blow me it popped out of the thick hedge of my field and came ambling in. Plenty of time to nail it at 70yds - sent the fur flying too!
Farmer delighted to get the pair in advance of lambing.

A few rats for the nephew and myself tonight from the pig units with the air rifles, 113 between us. Farmer is chuffed again, a bit miffed that he missed us.
Standing on the cold concrete floors in welly boots is not so much fun at times, I must look into getting a pair of heated socks, one of the girls that goes beating has a pair and reckons they are better than sliced bread...

Heated sock idea duly noted!

#4 for me.
I just had a look over the bottom field from the kitchen window and a slinky fox was cutting across the turnip field, so the old Foxy Scrabble for cabinet, rifle etc, then the two flights of stairs to the attic window and it appeared on the Muntjac carcass 15 minutes later 💥🦊... I pick it tomorrow... 72 yarder
