Latest to hedgelay

Before the sap rises and it starts budding. My mates still laying. I think end of the month is to stop hedge cutting because of nesting birds. 31st of march so Google says

In the garden, no rules apply. On agricultural land up until 30 April.
Can get an awful lot of hedge laid in 10 days mate - before lambing ?
May too late - birds will have potentially started nesting in it

Oh yeah wasn't meaning that mate, was more worried about sap effects on success rates.
It may be a bit late for this too but perhaps worth a try, you may have a local org /charity wbich trains people or has volunteers learning to hedgelay who might like to practise on your hedges. I've had them a couple of times - they're pretty slow (and of course are there to enjoy themselves learning ) but did a pretty good job.

We've had over 300 yards of hedge laid this season,took one day! What the boss did was have a hedge laying competition held on the estate,a long overgrown hedge running up the outside of a wood.
The boss told me that it cost a cash prize plus lunch for the competitors, much the same as a shoot day for the beaters.
The competitors all had a length of hedge allocated to them,all the stakes and binders were supplied. I don't know the ins and outs of the day but the boss was very happy with the results.
If you contacted your local hedge laying club/society, maybe the nearest college of countryside skills or it's equivalent, maybe they could help you out.
Learned to hedge lay that way many years ago.

It's not been done before. Our garden hedge running along footpath. Was swamped with ivy. I've cleared it & post rail fenced our side. Just wanting to thicken it up as a visual barrier so walkers can't look straight into me sun bathing naked in garden.
I've not done hedge laying since my countryside management national diploma days!!
My mate did mine 2 years ago. It was swamped with ivy. There wasn't much left by the time he'd finished. It's getting there now tho. Put plenty of quicks in to fill it in. You'll want to get them in asap as you won't be able to buy them soon. Select plants just outside Harby will do them.
In the meantime, a strategically placed washing line with a couple of bed sheets hung out to dry will do the trick
I was taught when theres an R in the month for hedge work, however with seasons not what they used to be, you should probably shave a month or even two off that, I aim to get any hedge or planting done by end of February and see March as a contingency. In my area, budding seems to be normal this year, other years its been early
