Out last night.

#17
As I write this I hear a shot ring out in the distance, nice 😎.
Anyway tonight I visited a place I use to take between 800-1000 rabbits off a year until that new disease arrived. Happy times they were.
I watched the sun set and scanning the valley.
A lovely time, warm too.
As darkness fell I made my way up and old farm track to which I bumped into a tiny vixen that just stopped and stared!
Silly moo ...

No ducks were harmed in the making of this video.

A trail camera yesterday showed me the good news of a fox at 1915 ! Pretty early considering the state of the moon at the moment. However a man’s gotta do,etc, etc.
Pitched up at 1900 and made my self as comfortable as possible. Cold and windy ,I regretted the lack of a heavier jacket. 1930 came and went and nothing showed, ah well..
Then I spotted a heat signature some 500 yards away. Yes, yes, the fox approached at a steady trot, occasionally pausing. I sent it on its way at 100 yards. It wasn’t conscious of its demise.
Back at the truck packing up I clocked another one in the opposite direction. Took the shot, heard the thump. It ran, lay down and as I was walking up it staggered into a ditch. One to find today.IMG_4104.webp

Just about to launch a mobile high seat, been playing with the old damp rods & gloves & gash trailer.:coat:

:fox::norty:, waiting on a tractor implement clip from Amazon to finish job.:camo:
Going to locate it on the stack yard, on a high - ish bit, giving me a no hiding place shot all around the farm buildings, ground to rail is 14' on the trailer + the high ground, I will need to fit an oxygen jack plug to the ladder.:norty:

Have you tried putting 150kgs onto the seat to test it or hang that weight down from the seat so as not to climb the ladder? As to me it looks like it could fold as the triangulation looks suspect to me. I would hate to read on here that you had been rogered by a strut, even worse than @VSS.

I am definitely prepared to step aside and allow someone else to take the lead on stalking inflicted injuries.

Watching this thread with gleeful anticipation concern.

(The seat is a separate fabricated item designed to lean against a tree, ).. the tree has been replaced by the 40mm x 40mm heavy walled box upright frame at rear of trailer, braced by 6mm x 40 mm x 40 mm angle, the foot of the high seat is retained by spring loaded gate bolts at the front floor edge of the trailer, the seat will be raised to its position in the pics & retained by a pin fixing the back stays to the rearward frame, I would need Giant Haystacks sitting with me, to do any harm to the build.
However I will make the first climb with a parachute. :norty:

Popped to my permission on a different field that’s not always shot at night!
Saw about 5-6 foxes going about crisscrossing the fields.
Had the caller on different calls but didn’t really get too much interest!
Had some more interest from 2-3 ..unfortunately didn’t come into my safe shooting zone.
This one in the pics certainly played me as I tracked it from behind then it wearied off disappeared from view and finally comming in cautiously from my right and was definitely stalking the mouse call that was playing on my caller and steamed in and crabbed it..
Waited for it to turn as it just let go for a second grab..but the .223 Vmax got to it first!
It shows that a caller definitely improves your chances by 200 %. At least!
Enjoy the pictures.

You need an aircraft beacon and inform air traffic control with that bugger!
