Mauser 66 Bolt Question

Does anyone know what the following screw relates to, please?

I've given it half a turn in both directions and it moves with little resistance. I'm reluctant to remove it to tasisfy my curiosity as I suspect it's some kind of tensioning assembly with a wee spring and possibly an even smaller ball bearing that could easily be lost!

I can’t find a schematic for the 66 but I can for its predecessor the 660

That has a similar bolt cocking piece and screw

This I think alters the tension on a spring and ball detent for the safety lever

I’ll add that this is a supposition

Thanks. I'll see if it does tension the safety catch once bolt reassembled after cleaning and polishing.
