Wanted: Good scope for .17 HMR £500 budget.

The rifle is to non on a 17HMR rifle, hence the Dedicated Hawke Vantage 17HMR scope ontop. I like the reticule, but rhetorical FOV is tight. I use it for general day time pest control shooting rabbits, magpies, rooks, squirrels and mostly from my truck from 30-200 yards.
Ok good bit clearer now , Target size 2" at 200 yards say yeah? Your going to need to dial corrections for wind and trajectory , I am a MOA guy personally you might be different but most important bits are decent wind and elevation tracking that you can trust and parallax adjustment capability while in the aim ( side parallax best ) Objective less handly so go for side . 32-44 objective but i should go 40 if the choice was there there is no real tangible reason to go bigger and bigger mostly means less handy and harder to wriggle into place and poke out the truck window might well prove that 32mm marginly better ( also shorter scopes can prove worthwhile often over long ones in hides out out of windows )
I know nothing about the Hawke you mention but have had a few and they do represent good enough performance to get the job without too much cost for your uses to my mind.
There are diminishing returns on higher end optical day scopes today than in the past . Your use does not require buying to the top of your budget and putting too much scope on what should be a light , short truck gun for low or no value quarry IMHO. Second hand Leopold variables and 1" tubes work great

I have a Sightron S3 6-24x50, with the MOA 2 reticle. Lovely centre dot and hash marks for quick elevation and windage adjustments.
£350
Slim and light, perfect for you HMR

@lordy has a Delta Titanium for sale on here. 2.5-15 x 56 for £425 posted, decent glass, and works with an add-on should you wish to. I love these scopes, good bang for bucks.

Had a Hawke Sidewinder 8x32x56 on my HMR but changed to a Minox X5i 3x15x50 for more or less the same reason.

The sidewinder mag was excessive, but great for pin point at100ms, but was almost as long as the rifle and threw off the balance. 😄 Wasn’t fun to carry.

The Minox has slightly better glass, so can be used later - both work well with a Pard NV007 add on.
I have the exact same scope on my .22-250 which may replace the Zeiss on my .243 as I really like the 4ai dot reticule. I am looking for something with a BDC reticule though otherwise would put it back on.

ok i am sure you must have a point but i am scratching my head to make head or tail of it sorry

I have a Hawke .17 HMR scope ontop of my rifle, but if I am being fussy, the Field of view is quite narrow.

Looking to see what's out there, will spend up to £500 as want good, clear glass.
Preferably something with BDC reticule. I love the ret in the dedicated HMR scope, but it's like looking through a pipe.
I am after Zeiss, Leupold etc, will consider Sightron and some of the American brands - you get the picture. Ideally reticule range 5-20, 3-18 etc. 50mm objective if preferable but will consider 44mm, 25 or 30mm tubes.

I do have. Zeiss Victory Diavari 6-24x56 with Mil dot IR reticule in VGC that I am thinking of selling which is currently on my .243 but going to swap that our for a Swaro 8x56 IR, so could do a scope swap + cash if that's of interest too.
James.
Meopta ZD 3-12X50 TACTICAL any use? I'm selling one. It's got outstanding lenses.

17hmr is a 150y round (sensibly), go for a fixed power, fixed parallax scope 6x42, 8x56 with better glass for more poor light performance, unless you're using as add on in which case go for the PA

Hawke sidewinder are all I use on my .22 and .17hmr! Good enough for what I need, I did try a alpex but it annoyed me needing to turn it on for quick shots!!! Stick with the hawke and take yer partner out for tea 😂 or buy something else with the saving
Why didn’t you just leave it on and carry a spare battery?
