peregrin bullets

Just put some .243 82gr together as above and went with Sta ball 6.5 at 45.5 as barnes data was 45.6 at 85gr. 100 thou jump gave 1" at 100yd but with hard extraction, question is back off .5 gr and or longer jump? Any theories welcome.

Do you mean Barnes load data says max load at 45.6gr?

If so I’m assuming you started much lower and worked up?

Therefore maybe back off to a point before you started experiencing hard bolt lifts?

As above back of until pressure is under control the. Adjust seating depth to account for any difference in accuracy if needed.

That being said I haven’t seen it or felt it so take all advice with a pinch of salt…

With Peregrines, like all monolithic don’t go chasing the lands, best to just load to standard over all length.
I absolutely accept that's the perceived wisdom. However, nobody bothered to tell my 6.5x47, which loves the 124 grain just 10 thou off the lands.

Have to admit i found that previously all reloads were near top end so jumped in thinking data for 85gr would be well safe for 82gr. Not so sure now. Best group out the three were 2.5mm off the lands or 100th. Drop the charge weight

I’m concerned that you are not being cautious enough…..

Also, looking at the Barnes data online i couldn’t see data for the powder you used with an 85gr bullet only 95gr?

FWIW i did some load testing in my 308 with 136gn peregrines. I started low and worked up the powder. The best accuracy was at the top end of powder but i too got stiff extraction. I used Lovex D073.5.
I just seated the bullets as per the peregrine data.
Note there was no specific data regarding lovex powder loads for these bullets.
It was interesting to see a reasonable group at my starting load get worse as i increased and then come back together to be very tight at the upper end.

Mistaken, data came off Hodgdon reloading data. Am trying one and ahalf grain under max. see what results I get

Peregrines are bore rider bullets so the majority of the bullet isn't engaged in the rifling and the ogive, such as it is, is considerably further back than on a conventional bullet. If you're loading to 100 thou jump there's a lot of bullet up the barrel and relatively little seating depth. Definitely load to peregrine recommended OAL to get adequate seating depth.

@jtl back off more than 0.5gr if you're seeing signs of high pressure. You need to allow for summer temperatures too.

Follow peregrine recommendations and also please read a reloading manual (plenty available online) so that you don't hurt yourself.

Ok.
So your starting load was .1gr under max load for a different bullet.

I’d recommend more caution

Also, start low (they call it starting load for a reason) and work your way up in gradual steps until you find an accuracy node.
