Well there’s no going back now… 😳

Couldn’t resist the nice orange G10 handled Enzo knife @wellyboot was selling recently so a meet was arranged & cash changed hands 😎

The blade is an ideal width for tunnelling, amongst other things, Muntjac - which I seem to have shot quite a lot of this winter & struggled with the Mora at times.

The one thing that I wasn’t quite happy with was the blade length - at 110mm it’s more of a fish knife than a deer knife, in fact it’s an Enzo Fisher so that probably explains a lot. Had a look at the Mora, traced the blade shape onto some weetabix packet & transferred to the shape onto the Enzo.

After a bit of umming & arring I decided this morning to go for it… out came the dremel & a cutting disc 😳

Well it’s too late now, have taken about 10mm off the length, used a sanding wheel to get the edge shape & now busy with a flat diamond stone getting the flat grind to follow the edge - which might take a while as there’s actually quite a lot of metal to move!!

Actually, getting the flat grind to taper down to the new blade edge has only taken me about an hour which I’m pretty pleased about 😀

I’ve only gone down to a 400 grit stone at the moment as it’s the finest one I have. I’m picking up some flat stainless bar from a mate at the weekend & will then be able to use some finer grit paper to take out some grind marks but won’t be going so fine as to polish the flats.

The professional knife makers on here are probably going to come after me with their own knives for saying this, but… once I’ve finished brushing the flats I’m going to put a secondary bevel on the edge. That is how the blade was finished when I got the knife & I don’t have the time or patience to get an edge with a true flat grind!!

Time now to think about a suitable sheath for this little lovely - leather or Kydex 🤔

For a full flat, in my opinion you will need a secondary bevel, or the edge will be so fine it will not last any time at all, it'll make an excellent razor, but little use for anything else if you followed that angle to the edge.

Looks like you have made a good job of it.

Thanks 👍 - it seems that despite not going on to work in a profession that made use of them, I’ve not forgotten how to use the skills that got me an ‘A’ in my O’ Level Metalwork back in the (very) early ‘80s 😳. My old Metalwork teacher was very proud when he told me I’d got one of only two A grades awarded by the exam board in our region that year, the other was a fellow student in my class - he was dead chuffed with us! And, if truth be told, I’m pretty chuffed with my efforts on the blade - it’s got some scratches I still want to get out but the geometry is spot on 😎

F09EBB3E-A023-4DA1-857A-608424FF4773.webp I have the same. On mine I reprofiled and put a slight drop on the point which took a few mm of the end. I also made the handle shorter and slimmer. I think it’s an excellent blade and good value, I think my blank was less than £30.
