Swallow, Swift and Martin watch!

Had a cracking week so far 👍
Mistle and song thrush
Jenny wren
Black cap
Dunnock
Coal, blue and longtail tits
And in my brothers garden Nightingale

First time i’ve seen the thrushes in three years and the nightingale 10 years, no sign of a turtle dove yet and no cuckoo yet
Funnily enough I had a Thrush in the garden recently. First in years!!

Swallows arrived a few days ago here in my area of the South Lakes, also spotted House Martins already tending their nests on the side of the house.

Saw my first osprey of the year ten days ago, flying above the pub I was sitting outside in Aviemore. However I have not seen a single swallow, swift or house Martin in Aberdeenshire yet, and have not heard a single cuckoo.

Once had an osprey stoop and take one of the shoal of mullet I was creeping through the reed-bed to flick a bait to on Christchurch Harbour. It came from behind me and I jumped out of my skin when it hit ! Well worth missing a chance on a mullet for a sighting that close (less than 30 feet). Magnificent birds.

I’ve stood quietly watching an osprey taking stock trout out of a pond right next to me. And have fished alongside an osprey on Loch Lee. I’m happy to say that I caught more fish that day. They are beautiful birds.

first Swallows
First swallows yesterday in West Tipperary - were 1st-11th April in Wiltshire in past.
Have loads of rooks and starlings around so have feeders with cages to stop the larger birds, has really helped songbird numbers. and mistle and song thrushes resident. Heard a Curlew the other day (lost those in Wiltshire 22 years ago) and lots of gold and greenfinches that weren't common there. Miss the woodpeckers and Red kites and having swallows in squadrons!
