I caught a deer many years ago by the yomper statue on Portsmouth sea front, rspca recon it came from IOW, which was utterly rubbish it came off Milton common via portsdown hill, there is a green way all the way.

Heard the same storyI believe (although a local might tell me otherwise) that the original sika deer in Dorset were released onto brownsea island near Poole but they all swam across the harbour and into the surrounding countryside!
To be honest, I knew absolutely nothing of deer back then so I never questioned the sighting.Really? Wow.
I was regularly out foxing over several thousand acres around aber back then and never saw a sniff of a deer by lamp light, nor heard tell of any either.
