Swarovski STC Spotting Scope

Does anyone have any feedback or experience with the Swarovski STC 17-40x56 spotting scope?

I am being increasingly drawn to one, but other than looking through one at the Stalking Show have no field experience. To be used for on the range, hill stalking and general observation. There looks to be a considerable saving on secondhand options.

I bought one second hand. It’s compact and really easy to use so I take it out more than the CTC I had before. At the lower end you can use it from the hand but it benefits from support, be it bag, branch or tripod. Scanning the hillside on x17 from a tripod is an absolute pleasure and I find I’m increasingly, pleasantly distracted by the wildlife.

However, in my opinion, it’s not a substitute for binoculars. Glass and clarity wise, it’s similar to my EL 10x42 but there is a loss of FOV.

Many thanks, that’s a really helpful response. It would certainly be in addition to my binos rather than replacement.

Au contraire.
