Hic 4K lite couple of mixed reviews ?

Likewise. It's a proper mixed bag at the moment 
. Not seeing many comments on how well it performs, or how powerful an ir illuminator it requires in the dark yet. I've always refrained from buying the big brother alpex purely down to the weight, preferred Dnt zulus and pard ds as they also had good built-in ir (gen1 ds) almost half the weight!
I do like Hik products though and I've had an FQ50 thermal for 3 years. I like the thought of running everything through the same app aswell, and the Hik app is brilliant especially for a tech numbskull like me.
Almost hoping this 4k lite performs well in total darkness.

I purchased one to try, it's very easy to set up and simple to use. Daytime setting needs a bit of fiddling with to get a good picture but at night the image is very good. I have not tried the 4k full fat version so I can't compare, I have been using it with a Blade IR, I didn't buy the LRF version and I have mounted the unit on my 243. First impressions it's a good scope, it's light and seems well made; I wouldn't use it as dayscope but as quick scope swap over for night use it works well, I've tried it to about 130yds at night with a good image even on full magnification.
Daytime image is on a par with the big one
Night time image with pbirl or a ludicrous lumens small unit is excellent
Everything is similar or better than the big brother
With one exception
The last light element where the image is colour but the real world is grey is where the smaller unit image is a little weaker
Not enough to justify sticking with the extra 500gr in my opinion
Excellent units
By far the most interesting thing on the market at the moment and the price is bonkers for what you get
I have run the 4k personally for 6m and can’t see a reason to not swap and the size and weight

Last light performance is what's keeping me from getting one TBH. I've got the original Alpex on my .222 and is my main Munty (and Fox) rifle.
The original is fantastic at first/last light and yes it's nearly double the weight of the new version.....but still a great tool.
In practical terms Ed, is there much difference in time between the original and lite colour image degradation?
I know the eye relief is a little short but would you use one on a stalking rifle? I have the 4K and highly rate it - the lite version has a massive appeal for its weight saving and performance.
Messed around with some settings and now the low light performance on the lite is easily on a par with the big boy

Really? i’d love to see a side by side comparison. Thats some great work by HIK if they have managed to achieve that.
Last light is good, but not as good as the A50E model, the lens is huge in comparison, so it's not equal..
But is it good enough though. As with most things in life, its always a compromise and an 80% solution may be perfectly adequate. Looking forward to some side-by-side reviews/videos to inform
I for one, find my "full fat" Alpex AE50L a tad heavy and awkward in the field.

Ive had a couple of goes with one, i won’t be swapping my bigger ones for the sake of a pound. It seems to have less magnification so you will be needing more for the same shot so potentially a little more pixelation? this vid shows it and very interesting in the last part of the vid with the lite not showing the back of the barn, transfer that to shooting in dense woodland and it may be found wanting.But is it good enough though. As with most things in life, its always a compromise and an 80% solution may be perfectly adequate. Looking forward to some side-by-side reviews/videos to inform
As Ian has said there’s a considerable difference in the lens diameter, there has to be a performance difference past airgun/rimmy ranges.
Thank you for that @Pellet Pinger - greatly helped inform my thinking about acquiring one for the air rifle. I’ll lump it and use the big one
well I just fitted one to my 6.5 Grendel in preparation for the swap over.

How are you getting along with this may I ask? As days shorten it's becoming a greater need.
Also mind sharing the tweaks that you made to improve dusk, my C50 isn't my friend.
