Crooked roe antler cause?

Hello all,

Went out this morning and was all but ready to give up for the day but took one last walk and found this.

Any ideas on the usual cause for this?

Haven't had one this aggressive before so curious as to the cause.

He bashed it when it was in velvet. Nothing to do with worms or injuries elsewhere

Was a clean gralloch, nothing showing anything, will get the head stripped for mounting at the weekend and take a look internally as well.

As others have pointed out - bashed it while in velvet ! deer antler in velvet are very easy to damage it happens often .

Yeah I've seen a few with mild bends in them or bits missing, this is a first for a 90 deg bend. Must have taken a fair whack at some point

Not as much force as one might think , snagged in a fence in velvet could quite easily do that . Its a nice oddity head though . Roe especially get stuck in the square mesh etc and cavort all over to free themselves with all their weight quite wildly! I have freed a few from fences and they take some holding onto

I berated my self for a lousy shot on a stag that put a hole in its antler. Too me ages to realise that it could only have left a .30 hole when in velvet, so I'd clean missed!

Not mine almost bought it a few years back, though I'd say this injury had to be out of velvet.

Just an update, seems to be turning out well, be a nice feature on the wall eventually!
