Hmm, so what is ‘small cal’? Surely it must be defined somewhere
It has been published on the link below. There is a detailed briefing and draft regulations.@Conor O'Gorman where can we read the full government announcement.
And that is the crux of the issue. If there was an effective alternative - and priced at the same level as the current lead content bullets, I think this would be a non issue.
It will, of course, be interesting to see if the various armed forces move away from lead......maybe try DU....that's a nice safe alternative....or not!
No exemption for a guy who hunts with a muzzleloader??

UK REACH restriction for lead in ammunition, 27 June 2025
Decision on a restriction proposal for lead in ammunition under UK REACH, including a draft amendment.www.gov.uk
Dont fret the 243 thing is pretty much sorted here in England and Scotland . 223 also as most twist rates do shoot 50 grain copper ( i use a lot of 223 copper , in an original Sako 75 on legal deer down to rabbits) bit worried about my CZ .22 hornet as 40 grain jacketed stubby lead bullets is all that will really fit the mag and feed . If it is to be sell or buy deal on ammo I will cast my own , unless of course we get paid out as we did in the handgun ban ?Trying to excempt the 243 and 22 C/F for deer is a fools errand, it would be so easy to change the minium calibre to 6.5mm.
Lots of views on the 243 with both lead and non-lead on SD, so lets not repeat them.
That might be one anecdotal fact. Did he have regular bone biopsy though?remember that time a gent on here said hed been eating lead shot game all his life and been tested and he had very low levels of lead in his system , then you came on and said he had high levels ?? id call that ignorant to facts
this is why I not a BASC member anymoreWell done BASC, you’ve played an absolute blinder on this from start to finish.
Imagine the trouble we’d be in if we didn’t have such an effective organisation fighting for us.
What is going to be the situation to acquire lead bullets/cartridges in the UK for use overseas. EG 375H&H for Africa
I would want to continue to zero and practice here before heading off to Africa - my life may depend on it. Will they still be available here??

Having read Para12 in the above link I gather lead projectiles in calibres less than 6.17mm are exempt from the ban. So .243 for deer, AOLQ and zeroing is OK.It has been published on the link below. There is a detailed briefing and draft regulations.

As I read it you can still zero and practice but only on what will be a permanent approved outdoor range, but not for live quarry shooting in the U.K.
on lead water pipes where children infants are drinking from so that would be the highest risk, you really can’t see by you comments what you are actually supporting do youGood it's about time..
I wonder if they will ban them then...The answer looks to be no.
Perhaps. It quite - allowed for ‘permitted’ birds and animals. So they can stipulate which fall in the ‘permitted’ category, and I suspect any birds and animals that could go into the food chain is not permitted.Having read Para12 in the above link I gather lead projectiles in calibres less than 6.17mm are exempt from the ban. So .243 for deer, AOLQ and zeroing is OK.
you could ask him right after you apolagise for misquoting him ? ive a funny feeling no matter what the results of any study youd ignore itThat might be one anecdotal fact. Did he have regular bone biopsy though?
You and the rest of the lead lovers should fund and put yourself forward as the experimental animals in a proper scientific study. I don’t know why all those who keep advocating for lead haven’t already done so.
My understanding from reading the detailed Defra brief is that rifle ammunition will continue to be available to buy and use on most outdoor target shooting ranges. Indoor ranges exempt from any restrictions. As regards shotgun ammunition exemptions for purchase and use for target shooting are limited to elite athletes who are training to compete at Olympic or Paralympic level. Generally exempt from all the restrictions being proposed are government services, private maritime security companies, Border Force and military. Indoor ranges are exempt from any legal restrictions on lead ammunition. What is going to be the situation to acquire lead bullets/cartridges in the UK for use overseas. EG 375H&H for Africa

Just as you ignore all the results of the scientific studies that have been presented to the HSE and government.you could ask him right after you apolagise for misquoting him ? ive a funny feeling no matter what the results of any study youd ignore it
