What is the correct procedure with your FAC when buying privately and using a RFD transfer. Asked my FAO but he was not sure but didn't like the idea of sending my license to a private individual, suggested I speak to my RFD? Anybody have any experience with this?

like the idea or not, thats how its done, you send your license off to the seller, he puts rifle on and sends it back, he takes rifle to his RFD, sends it to yours and you pick it up from there, fees to pay both ends, 3 years ago it would of been sent RFD to RFD, RFD would put it on your license, i called my FLO about all this when it changed as soe did it like that and some didnt, they said that is how it always should of been done, i never like sending my licence in the post, always send it SD, its a bit of a pain nowadays

It has always been the correct way to do it. The Firearms act states the seller must fill in the relevant section on your FAC. Previously a blind eye was turned, however there seems to have been a more concerted effort to get the correct procedure to be used in the past few years.
Letter (email poss) sent out to FLD's to remind them followed by them reminding RFD's etc.

my take on it back then though was i had given it to my RFD, transferred it to himself, then transferred it to the buyers RFD, then that RFD would write it on the license upon collection,
it worked well enough,

Arrange for buyers receiving rfd to collect gun and take it into stock. They then transfer it onto buyers fac.
Less hassle.
Seller doesn’t have to leave the house.

I sold my rifle to my local RFD and then put him in touch with an RFD that had a customer waiting for the same rifle that I sold him !

That's the way I did it when my 6Br went over to N.Ireland however my buyer was waiting on a variation.
When I purchased my FAC air rifle from Bromsgrove shooting I had to send my license to them as that was the rules from his FLD.
I sent & received it with tracked postage,I wasn't happy doing this but had no choice.
A few days later I picked the rifle up from my RFD,showed him my license had the air rifle on it & took it away.
Sort of makes the RFD to RFD transfer pointless in a way 🤔

And what would have happened if the customer changed his mind and did not buy the rifle?

If you’re nervous (I would be) then ask the seller to speak to the sending RFD (or get details and speak to them yourself) to see if you can send your ticket to them. The vendor can then fill it out when they drop the rifle off and your FAC can be packaged up and returned with the rifle.

When has things "working well enough" had anything to do with it? The whole ethos behind S1 is to load it with illogical and burdensome bureaucracy under the guise of "strict firearms controls"!

You could always send your fac to the sellers rfd. He then writes it on your license once he drops it to the shop for postage
