1st and Favourite

My first deer was a fallow pricket with @sikamalc which remains my only fallow to this day. My favourite deer to stalk are... Well, it's not really about species. It's about the wider context. Deer that are stalked in memorable conditions with people I like. Stalks that make for good stories (which no-one much wants to hear) and reflections (which I am always happy to daydream about).

First deer I shot was a Sika, though the first animal I stalked was feral goat
I like Fallow & Muntjac to stalk
Roe are beautiful - I could watch them for hours without shooting
Stalking Reds (especially hill stalking) is probably the "best" stalking, but most times it's too much like hard work for my old bones & joints at my age
I like CWD stalking, it can be almost too easy, but if you pick your moment & target well it can be challenging enough. Plus they are the easiest to deal with after the shot - apart from the pins of course
I prefer Sika venison, just, though Muntjac is also very tasty and runs it at least a very close second if not equal

It's kinda as others have said already - and PM for one puts it more eloquently than me - nowadays it's more about the whole experience, the making of memories, which if life is kind to me I hope to always have a willing listener to share them with

First was a roe doe on a foggy day on Salisbury Plain - deathly still and I was fortunate to be able to stalk in quietly for a literally bombproof backstop. I can remember the tension and adrenaline to this day.

Favourite - difficult to say. Like others, the challenge of stalking muntjac excels and last night the muntjac won. All of my reds have been in memorable locations with unique challenges, but fallow are rising rapidly in my stalking. Got within 20m of these last night with my heart thumping! Roll on 1 Aug 🤗

Cracking well done!

Most will not like this but my first was a fallow buck with a astra cyclops SB 12, 000 buck shot on the run , under the lamp, we pushed it home in a wheel barrow, with a very squeaky wheel, it’s on the wall at my fathers house.

My first and favourite would be the old switch I took in Sutherland many years ago, beautiful day, beautiful landscape and great company. And as the sarcastic stalker I was out with at the time said - the Stag was so old, he thought it had died of shock from the noise of the shot rather than the impact of the bullet! Great day................
