26mm rings

Hi there

After buying a nice little Zeiss 6*42 scope for my 3030 under lever I'm struggling to find mounts to fit.

I need 26mm rings, preferably for a picatinny rail.
Currently have 25 mm mounts and they're definitely not big enough.
Spoke to some guys at the stalking show today and optics warehouse said they sold them on their website but I can't find them?
Any ideas best place to look and find a set?

Optics Trade will likely have 26mm Rusan rings which are really good quality. They will deliver to the UK.

I couldn't find my 26mm rings recently for a different scope i was fitting and I was about to buy from Optics Trade and then I finally found my old rings at home.

I have sorted this in the past by taking a 1” diameter piece of tube or bar and glue a piece of emery paper of 120 grit around it. Mount the bottom rings on the rifle, apply oil and start lapping the bar down onto the rings - move it back and forth and rotating it this way and that all st the same time. Add the tops as soon as you can tighten up the screws bit by bit. You will soon find the bar into a good position with contact all around. Add another layer of emery paper / probably now a 200 grit. And repeat - until you have lapped the rings out to 26mm.

There are no specific 26mm rings. Only those rated 25.4/26mm. These are mostly aluminim rings which are flexible enough to manage the balancing act.

Yes there are specific 26mm rings, and some of them are made of steel.

To the OP, on one occasion I've lapped cheapish aluminium rings to 26mm like described above (well almost like). But that's because I'm cheap, and that install was not overly important. Scope was (is) also steel tubed S&B.

Rings that are not split 50/50 are easier to lap, since the top part is usually more flexible like Steff said. And remember I say "easier to lap", not "better after lapping". Also rings with separate middle part like Optilock of Signature series from Burris might be more accommodating (1" rings to 26mm scope w/o lapping) as might be reducer inserts to 30mm rings.

In the past I have also ran 30mm rings with 4mm delrin reducers but that was for a Brno dovetail where a 26mm mount is like hens teeth.

Emma Custom's website is showing a set of Hilver in stock on their website, but to my sensibilities, Rusan are better finished and probably cheaper too.

Thanks for the advice chaps I'll see what I can get sorted. A right bugger to sort. Can put a man on the moon and all that but 26mm rings for a 26mm scope of a well known brand is not easily doable apparently....🙄

Could you point me to one of those please? I‘ve really never seen any before.
I’ve got a couple of sets of German made mount/rings which are definitely exactly 26mm & were purchased to suit 26mm tubes which they do perfectly without any deforming either way.

It’s some years since they were acquired but I think one set at least was Ernst Apel.

Optilocks are supposed to work, also much easier to lap the polymer inserts
Optilocks certainly do work.
Another alternative which I've find very useful is to use adapter inserts in 30mm rings. They only cost a few quid from Ant Supplies Site Search | ant-supplies Website Product Finder and its always useful to have a set of 30mm-1" and a set of 30mm-26mm rings in your spares box.

Parker Hale did 26mm rings and in several heights, from memory though they are to fit there own dovetail mounts which are screwed to your action , all still available and rock solid. Part numbers are on line.

Yes Parker Hale did do 26mm rings and I had a set at one time. Though I don't share your high opinion of them as being being rock solid and I replaced mine with a set of steel Redfield rings and bases. Redfield were subsequently absorbed by Leupold who later dropped 26mm from their line out unfortunately.

The roll off mounts could be a bit sketchy if you fiddled with them too much, the others I found fine, had them on a Pecar for donkeys, sadly long gone for very little, fetching a lot more now, hey ho, sales we later regret could be its own thread!

Could you tell me what height I would need for a 8x56 scope please, they are listing 8,12 and 14 mm?
Many thanks, Tusker

It's old technology. I sourced 26mm mounts for my father in 1999 when he was borrowing my .25-06.

I recently fitted a Kahles 26.2mm tubed scope to a Tikka T1X by using some 30mm sportsmatch rings reduced to 1" with Site Search | ant-supplies Website Product Finder
