That is great. But there are people out there that don't give a damn. I was a member of a clay shooting club for over 25 years until I emigrated but still visit when I'm in the UK. The club shoots over a SSSI and for the last 35 years at least has had a ban on plastic wads. Anyone shooting plastic wads there risks the club being shut down. Guess what? They still find new plastic wads on a regular basis when they are setting up the machines. So some in the shooting community don't give a damn about anyone else or the environment.I can't understand why people are using plastic wads anyway. I use fibre or biowads for Clays and live quarry and have always picked up my empty cartridge cases. And I will be using lead until it becomes illegal.
Or indeed when BASC nominated John Swift for honorary life membership they waxed lyrical about his achievements, apart from no mention of his role on the LAG and his outstanding support for a lead ban, stretching back over 10 years ago. No wonder that Conor keeps trying to change the subject when I mention this.BASC have caused more harm than good in the lead free debate.
They did not consult the membership on this decision.
And why are the discussions on lead free
ammunition being hidden in the minutes of the meetings at BASC.
If you have nothing to hide why.
No comment on this then Connor.
Locally to me, irrespective of clays or live quarry, plastic wads are a big no no. Lead shot is not an issue howeverThat is great. But there are people out there that don't give a damn. Yeah, but how many break that rule anyway? As I say over 35 years of telling people not to and they still do it.Locally to me, irrespective of clays or live quarry, plastic wads are a big no no. Lead shot is not an issue however
It's called pride in yourself and in the place where you enjoy your Sport people should always respect the countryside and leave it as you found it.That is great. I would love to believe that. I hope you are rightNone- we respect our landowners
Thats not quite true. They would have to go round and check everyone's cartridges. Which they have on occasion. But there are a lot of trees and scrub so they can't see every shot fired. That is also poor management by the club, it’s not difficult to spot a plastic wad being fired and police the use of them, the local clay ground which is fibre wads only, soon jumps on anybody attempting to use plastic wads.
Totally agree. It's a shame not everyone does thoughIt's called pride in yourself and in the place where you enjoy your Sport people should always respect the countryside and leave it as you found it.
I can only speak for the places where I shoot and the companions whom I shoot withI would love to believe that. I hope you are right
This is my first comment on this thread although I have been following it since the day it started, along with the other threads on the lead ban. There are over 440 comments on this thread - mostly by a handful of forum members - mostly the same ones that dominate any lead ammunition related thread with the same old misinformation, BASC bashing and personal abuse.
The shooting organisations have a great opportunity here. They should be using the lead ban as a lever to improve other firearms legislation - reinstate other Olympic sports such as pistol shooting (it makes no sense that Northern Irish shooters can use pistols, but rest of UK cannot), simplify the FAC - ie no need for one for one variations etc - you are simply authorised to possess and use a certain number of a particular class of weapon and re enter the European Firearms Scheme just like other non EU nations such as Norway and Switzerland.
I would tend to agree with you on this point, though today I had a conversation with an FEO from a neighbouring police force and he mentioned they were stacked out with admin hence not responding to a message I sent (in MARCH!). He was telling me how much fun it will be when they are required to follow up personally with all referees and former partners and interview them all individually as to the suitablilty of an applicant to hold firearms. So I said "You can't cope now, are you serious?" and he said it was something they are preparing for NOW. I hear nothing about this from other sources, so where are they? So lead is not a naturally occurring element? And where do you think the lead comes from, especially we have used lead in petrol for many years?
That would make an awful lot of sense. I don't have much knowledge of the N.I. legislation but would I be correct in thinking that they have a banded system for possessing X numbers of firearms? If so that would be extremely useful in the rest of the UK, especially if "good reason" is applied to shotguns too.The shooting organisations have a great opportunity here. If the authorities could get the "fit to be entrusted " bit right , subject to good security arrangements do we really need all that other bureaucratic stuff that is passed off under the guise of strict gun controls? Does it really make a difference if I have 200 or 2000 rounds of ammo, or two guns or twelve?I would tend to agree with you on this point, though today I had a conversation with an FEO from a neighbouring police force and he mentioned they were stacked out with admin hence not responding to a message I sent (in MARCH!).
