Out last night.

Right then :)

I picked up some new farms recently and have hammered the crows..tell the farmer Im going to give them a break...photo of a load in the silage clamps and can I have another go.....

Set up at 5.30 on Sat morning ..shoot 2 and that brings things to a halt as the crows head to the surrounding areas (as expected).

Over to farm 2 and set up about 7.30. Crows decoys nicely and on a double at no 5 and 6 the pump action SXP no longer pumps.. FFS I think. Quick call to the farmer...can I borrow your shotgun...yes of course. Well what a rough old gun, rusty, ejectors dont work but better then throwing stuff at the crows. Managed 26 in total so not a wasted session (called it a day at 10.30).

House stuff then headed out to a cut peas and barley field next door to home hoping to find some pigeons. A few pigeons about and 50 or 60 crows so thought Id have a go. Slow but steady and shot from 16.00 to 19.30 and ended on 21 carrions 👍

Just need to try and fix the SXP but fortunately have a second shotgun I can use so no major issues.

Headed out at home again last night as a couple more fields had been cut. Walked to the top of the lane and realised how warm it still was so left my fleece on the gate and headed over to next doors. Called and wandered for an hour or so then headed back down the lane to home and spotted a fox in the field below the lane. I had to make about 600 yards to get into a shootable position ...just as the fox headed into cover. Despite a bot of hand calling the fox didnt appear. One of the farms 1/2 mile away has a load of dogs which were kicking off so headed over to have a look ...spotted a fox about 120 yards away and set up on the sticks ready. Quick squeak stopped her and down she went to a 100 Grain .243 soft point. No 30 👍

I took my time to avoid the spelling police picking fault (would that be a Cockwomble classification?)

Well done to you...no deer where I live so alas I cant emulate your results 🥰
A life lesson is to take your time and check things, lining up birds in a row is a Cockwomble trait..
Are you sure you took your time?
Thank you 74 deer so far since Jan

No need for that Tim  but will try harder on the deer. 74 is good going and better then my 21 :(👍

Out Last Night and Out This Morning on a farm I shot 30 foxes on in only a few months earlier in the year so not expecting to see much. 19 degrees at 10pm - nightmare, air was really thick and yours truly sweated like the proverbial pig, even in lightweight trousers and shirt. Didn’t put wellies on - far too hot, just walked in my running shoes if you see wot I mean. After the clear out earlier this year I was pretty certain there wouldn’t be much about….
Soooo, anyhow….. this first fox gave me a real runaround; never stood still long enough to take the shot so had to be ready when curiosity and my hand squeak finally got the better of a really nice dog fox.

Well that was exciting, surely there cannot be any more. A long walk up the concrete lane still in my running shoes (we call them gutties) ensued ….
Soooo, anyhow this second fox came in from a long way out but stayed a couple of hundred yards off before starting to work the wind - fortunately there was really very little or so I thought. She was in scrubland and I lost her on a few occasions before I spotted her slowly walking away - presumably the zephyr had given old sweaty FB away? Anyhow, a couple of FB’s by now legendary quacks, a few squeaks and blow me she stopped - 170 yards away and the Zulus struck again.

The Zulus lrf seemed to be struggling in the very damp air but after the shot I was able to measure it at the reported 170yards.
A quick segue to the adjacent farm across the road and 4 cut fields not yet collected. Loads of calling but nada. Decided I needed to go home and have a shower (it was that warm) and in the second field, tight to the hedge was another fox. No time to ping it but looked 150-ish and I knew just how flat the sainted triple deuce shoots so a quick target acquisition and the resultant “wwwuuummmppphhh” told me all I need to know - another large dry vixen.

In summary a great night out - hard going as so very hot but a result which I know will please two sheep farmers.

Took a Vixen I have been seeing coming out of the Llandegla forest, after obtaining the green light on permission, I had been doing some short range stuff round feeders of late, so had to do the hard yards setting the impact back to a smidgeon high @ 160 yards .. six rounds to get satisfaction, a total of 1,920 yards walking back & to onto the paper, quite a test in the humidity.
Vixen not pretty.

Use to walk around Panorama a bit and over the hill from the ponderosa to the top of Llandegla. And that old mining area. Is it Minera??

Well...I was supposed to be out last night but technically this is a summary of "out last evening" so apologies :)

One of the farms I look after had been seeing a few foxes so I headed over but decided to go a bit earlier and maybe shoot a fallow (but wasnt expecting to). Farmer text to say there was a fox sat watching them load straw bales onto the trailer. I thought I can have a quick walk along the edge of the wood on the way to the field and get the fox....but alas I got to the edge of the wood at 21.00 and there were 7 fallow out in the barley munching away...the group consisted of 1 big buck and 6 prickets. I watched them for 5 mins until 1 presented a safe shot so he dropped on the spot to a chest shot off the sticks at about 120 yards. The rest of the group ran on and stopped about 80 yards away so I dropped another pricket with a high neck shot. Quick retrieve from the barley, bleed, gralloch and into the chiller at home at around 23.00 and with the butcher at 7.00 this morning . Both 39kg larder weight...foxes can wait until later in the week :)👍
