Has anyone been here? I have booked a couple of days on stags in September to make up for not getting a sunny holiday this year & would be interested to know if anyone else has been there.

You will have a good day there, you just got a day in time before yet another estate is ruined. It was a fantastic estate for stalking and grouse and one of the few that used pony's for bringing the stags off the hill. Duncan mentioned above moved to strath conan a few years ago now, Kevin the head stalker is still there.
Just noticed this is an old original post but one of the best stalking estates now ruined anyway.

Was this pending closure a known thing? It’s not an estate I’m familiar with but should we or should we still not make our voices heard a bit more than this?
Essentially antis have complained. Deer are still being managed/shot. It’s just a level of access has been removed to stalkers on yet another estate.
Yes it’s their loss if they’d rather dig into their funds rather than generate an income from it - maybe they don’t have an issue here. But there’s thousands of deer stalkers and sportsman up and down the country that if they’d received the same amount of opposing emails to the closure, maybe they’d have reconsidered.
(The term blood sports is a joke)

I had some "interaction" with one of the Durrell advisors on LinkedIn yesterday, she had a very firm stance that any form of antler appreciation was "Trophy Hunting" and nothing more than insecure people shooting deer to prove their masculinity over a defenseless animal!
I stated that I hoped none of their "in-house" contractors would take any form of satisfaction during culling & she stated this would be assured!.., her lack of deer management understanding and arrogance was breath-taking.
Clearly highlighted the "re-wilding" trend in treating deer as vermin

The thing is, I’m sure shooting folk could amass hundreds of complaint emails at our end ‘if’ they could be bothered. We’re far less vocal than the opposition which is always the downfall. They’re proactive and were reactive.
Fair play for messaging. A lot of us as a community aren’t bothered unless it’s directly on our doorstep
I will now treat the two sets of antlers from my visit to Dalnacardoch with great reverence as true trophies- I have the head of a switch behind my desk (to remind me why I spend so much time there) and the other is on loan to a neighbour for display in their B&B.

The economy of the wild lands rests on the back of the stag, grouse and salmon; these people wish to destroy such sustainable use in favour of their own preferred idyll, and to Hell with the natives and over a century of tradition.
