But Chris, that isn’t how organisations such as BASC operate.I agree with some of the points raised , what concerns me is the BASC claims to be democratic yet no votes on lead and the minutes on lead are confidential![]()
The Council members that are elected by members (yes, a very small percentage but again that’s the nature of the beast e.g. only 200 odd SD members voted on your recent poll) are given a mandate to vote on members’ behalf. That is democratic. I’m sure that labour voters don’t agree with all the decisions being made by the current government!
There is no way that a vote can be organised for every single decision, whether such an important topic should merit one could of course be argued.
BASC is a big and unwieldy beast and there will always be issues / decisions to argue against, as we see constantly on here. As many have pointed out though, what are all the other organisations doing for the shooting cause?
I’d also say that folk seem to expect too much of a shooting organisation, whilst they may score some small victories on policy, they are simply swatted aside by the vote-hungry politicians who make the most non-sensible and ill-informed decisions impacting our sport and countryside.
I strongly agree with you that it is a disgrace that full Council minutes are not available to members if that is the case!
