That permethrin stuff

Quick question. Can you just spay this stuff on your clothes before you go out? Does it work?
And can you spray it on your skin?

I have been using Life systems Permethrin on my kit. You spray it on and need to let it dry thoroughly before wearing.

I find I now get very few ticks on me. When I am with others on the same ground who don’t have such treatment on their clothes- they get ticks and I don’t.

For your skin, use Smidge insect repellent- works well and keeps the midges away as well.

Ah, i have icaridin, didn't realise it works for ticks
I would still go for permethrin on clothes for ticks but icaridin is the best thing I've found to go on my skin. Icaridin will work on clothes against ticks and midges but permethrin is better I think.

Sawyers works well - been using for over 5 years now and not had a tick - dogs had a good few. Just spray on and let it dry outside - lasts for about 6 weeks.

Note - Permethrin is extremely harmful to cats.

As FB (above) I use Sawyer , spray on trousers and tops and leave hung to air dry outside, now I can gralloch without getting covered in blood I just avoid washing treated clothes for a few weeks. Feet go in Rovince socks which I find last years but replaced for stalking every 6 months or so, as the wife takes offence to repeated use before washing.

When you spray your trousers/sleeves whatever, does it not get washed of when crawling about in wet grass/cover?

Not really. Most treatments survive 10 washes in the washing machine with soap etc.

None of these treatments last forever. I do my kit in the spring time and seems to last well until end of tick season. But I am not using it every day.

There was a permethrin concentrate available for diluting down (it was recommended on a few SD pages). Has anyone used it or similar for clothes and rucksacks etc?
