Sticky stock

Hi all and hope all good ,just wondered if anyone could help with a small problem i have, its a sticky synthetic stock issue, ive tried a couple of things to rectify , (warm soapy water, and the birch wood stock cleaner rejuvenator) both with no joy just wondering if anyone has had same problem and managed to cure if could share would be greatly appreciated

Been discussed on here before, I believe the cause is the chemical in insect repellent when you transfer it from your hands. Someone will be along soon I trust with the correct name and a possible remedy to your irritating problem?

Rightly or wrongly, I ended up using this stuff on my sako 85 stock. There were lots of people advising lots of stuff and often others warning against using the stuff the other people had suggested! This worked, took my stock back to a plastic finish which is fine for me and made the rifle fully useable again.

I should add, I used cotton wool I think from memory and was careful not to get it on the rubber grips (your stock may not have them)

A good mate of mine did exactly the same on the recommendation of a trusted gunsmith friend, came up a treat, I will say he did a lot of swearing

Mine was also browning. It turned out well in all fairness though even if it did take a bit of work. I considered using shultz to give it that softer finish but really couldn't be arsed and just wanted to go shoot

As above, I used acetone on my sako A7. Wiped all the black gunk off with cleaning cloths and wearing disposable gloves, plus did outside as needs ventilation. Once dried, lightly buffed with hand oribital sander, primed and top coated with proper camo paints. Used some netting to get a simple effect. Well chuffed and sako back in use.

Not to state the obvious but the stuff I pictured above that I used (the nail polish remover) is 98% acetone so is a cheap easy to get option

The answer is probably already sat in the kitchen cupboard….

A fairly watery paste of bicarbonate of soda and a stiff nail brush got the sticky off my Benelli stock

Brillo pad works too.
Mask off the rubber panels.

Not too difficult to resolve if you have a little time available.
Start with bicarbonate of soda paste, rub down with fine emery paper, then rubbing alcohol and rub down again until aĺ the residue is removed. Wash off with more rubbing achohol.
Once dry spray with Plasticote paint.

I had the same problem with a pocket DAB radio, and the hand rests on a Nikon research microscope.
I used isopropanol to get it off.
