When it comes to a stalking tripod what do you use?
A thinner legged lighter model like the Sunwayfoto 2830 or do you prefer the thicker 40mm tubed models like the 4030?
i know its a fine balance between weight and stability
Dont say Quad sticks as they are just over rated from what little i've used them

Yeah I thought the same. No tripod is as steady as a set of viper flex with the 5th leg.

Tripods are horrible IMO. Had a guy come stalking with me with triggersticks and they weren't very useful.

I've found the 4Stable quad sticks to be more than adequate for standing shots, removing the middle sections for when seated picking off the rabbits. Are we not at risk for falling into the traps set for carp and pole anglers some decades ago?

I wanted the quick release version instead of the screw tighten type of arca clamp that came on the tripod. I messaged sunwayfoto and they sent me one out free of charge

I like it. Its very light and it can be used from a standing position all the way down to prone. Fits in the side pocket of my eberlestock pack nicely and its no real bother to carry in hand. Ive had a look at the bog offerings and I wouldn't bother with them over the sunwayfoto and I wont be bothering with sticks any time soon

I had a Spartan tripod and with the gunsmith adapter a little bit in front of the magazine it was great also ok in the front end position, I changed the stock and this couldn't be done so use quad sticks now.

Nope, less than a tenner!
Having said that, i agree and just use quads in the field, i only ever use mine for zeroing.

Id practice a bit more with the quads, far superior to a tripod.

I've got a rekon carbon tripod, only ever use it for foxing, quad sticks are my main go to

Sorry but with a bit of wind, that just looks destined to fall over.

Apart from the odd plotting ambush session, I’ve found tripods awkward to carry and set up for a shot.

Their best use is stationary with a spotting scope.
