The Fieldsports Channel insurance is only up to £5M liability, and most stalking leases will require you to have £10M.Good afternoon folks
I’ve been with basc for years now but have been considering the field sports channel membership with legal cover and insurance, has anyone got any experience with the latter? Would be good to hear peoples experiences on the subject?
Cheers all
If its concerns about firearms licensing now and into the future you might be best to continue to support BASC - I am not just saying that - I see what the firearms team does in supporting members across the UK and you won't get a better and more experienced team assisting you anywhere else.

Those assertions are not accurate nor relevant to the OP. Please read back over previous SD threads about medical verification going back a decade, many of which you have been very active in, and if you are still unsure about what transpired please PM me and happy to discuss. I have joined and left many organisations over the decades for various reasons and I would not dream of spending my time wading into forums complaining about them years after the fact, let alone making inaccurate assertions about them. Perhaps reflect on this and I am happy to discuss further by PM and/or phone.Unless it's to do with the implimentation of medical 'tick' forms introduction ?
First introduced by Police Scotland (thanks again Fazer [freedom] Lamb) and then slowly adopted by forces across the UK despite being against Home Office guidance and not opposed by BASC, other than by a light hearted "We don't agree with this and will help our members" rhetoric ?
You say BASC is "a more experienced team assisting you (than) anywhere else".
By 'assisting', you set up an external revenue stream called ShootCert, that "Helps Members and non-members" out of their money and helps them get a medical form completed that helps put funds into the BASC and the good doctors (and friends) lifestyle (that is just hearsay on my part and to be fair a wild guess) ??
A medical tick form that has what level of resposibility entrenched ?
Is the Dr stating/warranting that you/the applicant are 'safe and sound' enough to own a firearm or is it ShootCert itself that holds responsibility ?
BASC decided 'not' to legally challenge the implimentation of this medical tick form requirement, because (if my memory serves me correctly), 'they didn't think they would win'.
So the management and legal team sat down (2018/2019 ish), turned on the radio, opened a bottle of sherry and lit a cigar safe in the knowlege that their 'fighting fund' would still be available to 'fight another day'.

No I am not a BASC member.
Yes I was a BASC member but I left.
I was a member of SACS, but then Craig (Alex) Stoddart employed, Ex Head of Firearms for Police Scotland, Frazer (freedom) Lamb.
Thanks for that, I have no concerns regarding myself , just perhaps future, possible scenarios and would be be good to know that swift legal backup was there , obviously based on merit of the case but assuming no fault, I’m staying with basc , and will maybe call the legal team some point or find time to write an email to yourself.@Kyte

Last year BASC’s full-time specialist firearms department handled 8,537 enquires and held more than 110 formal meetings with firearms licensing departments and PCCs.
BASC’s Fighting Fund is available to help individual members, in a similar way to the previous Legal Expenses Insurance. We feel this option is more pragmatic and cost effective.
Each case brought forwards is taken on its individual merits, however we are broadly looking for:
Cases are regularly discussed and put forward by our dedicated firearms officers. By taking this approach, we are not beholden to the decision-making of an insurance provider and can make the call in the best interests of both an individual member and of the broader shooting community.
- A case that has a likelihood of winning (the previous LEI did not fund cases unlikely to succeed)
- The member has been the victim of an injustice
- Does the case have wider implications? (while any judgment will be based on that specific case, if there is a point of principle, it can help set the correct tone for other firearms departments on future decision making)
It’s important to note that our decision-making team reserve the right to stop further funding of a case at any point. Any costs incurred by the member will be covered until that point, but it is only right that if circumstances change, we are not spending members’ money on a case that no longer has the prospect of a successful outcome.
BASC staff also build key relationships with the police firearms departments across each region, ensuring we work proactively rather than just reacting to members’ problems. The benefits of the firearms officers being regionally-based (rather than based from our BASC HQ) means we can cultivate better relationships, react quickly and attend meetings more efficiently at a reduced cost.
Hope that helps and if you have any queries do message me or email me at conor.ogorman@basc.org.uk and I will try to help
That's great to hear, and do get in touch with me, or the firearms team, as needs be, now and in the future. We are here to help. Thanks for that, I have no concerns regarding myself , just perhaps future, possible scenarios and would be be good to know that swift legal backup was there , obviously based on merit of the case but assuming no fault, I’m staying with basc , and will maybe call the legal team some point or find time to write an email to yourself.
