Legal insurance -SxS insurance to close

Just been emailed to say my legal cover insurance is being discontinued, so this will make me rethink my NGO membership. Posting just in case others are in the same boat or considering NGO and assuming they can take up the supplementary cover through Side-by-Side.
Side by Side Insurance was set up by Peter Blackmore a few years back when he was at Blackmore Borley, a Lloyds Broker. The company has since been sold to Stubben Edge and renamed Stubben Edge Markets - they are not continuing to sell this coverage. However, I spoke with Peter earlier today who has since left Blackmore Borley / Stubben Edge. He tells me the cover is in the process of being rebranded and marketed under a different name Aegis Shoot Protect (insurer remains the same which is Sun Alliance I believe) . I have also sent him a transcript of this thread and he has promised to send me a response for posting on here.

So I just had a look at my SXS renewal date the policy will end in June so It looks like I paid for 12 months cover and receive six months ,check my email when I receive confirmation of the policy but the site is no longer active

Perhaps the alternative is for organisations to directly employ a solicitor who can act for members, either for free or at subsidised rates (which may be what Fieldsports Channel does).
Good idea, if all the shooting organisations could find a common purpose and jointly fund a pool of specialist solicitors for this kind of insurance? Might be too forward thinking for them ?

If Stubben Edge are still trading (which they appear to be) you are still covered, it looks like they have discontinued the product and won't be renewing at expiry . If they go belly up you can get a refund through the FSCS

Just tried contacting SxS by phone: directed to a full voicemail box…. No response to email either…..not impressed.

I’ve just renewed my NGO membership also asked the question regarding SXS insurance they are completely in the dark regarding this

Hi, I understand another provider is picking up cover until it runs to its end date, so you should still be covered until then, but I’m not sure how you can check - I have the same issue, but I’ll find the name for you.

But with only £5M liability cover.
That’s not enough these days.
Most stalking leases will require £10M minimum.

Just announced on their latest members show that from 26th February 2026 the public liability cover will increase to £10m, cost will rise to £97, (I’m sure that was it), existing members will automatically get the enhanced cover until their existing membership renews.

When I spoke with yhem at the Stalking Show last year they did say they were hoping to be able to do that.

I have now received this update from Peter Blackmore which hopefully provides some further clarification

Thank you for sight of the attached pdf document outlining the difficulties resulting from the Side by Side insurance and I write this email to clarifying the position ad please post it on the appropriate chat, as required.
The insurance scheme is now available and managed by QPI Limited. The original Side by Side Insurance cover has been rebranded as Aegis Protect Shoot but is the same coverage, the same insurer, and the same pricing, and NGO discount, but we fear the pricing will increase soon, partially because of the number of claims.
For all current Side by Side policy holders, you should have received an email advising you of the change in management of this scheme and not to cancel your current policy.

If you wish to purchase, or renew, your policy (Aegis Protect Shoot) please visit our new website (www.aegisprotect.co.uk), enter your details, again, and a new policy can be purchased and emailed to you.
This improved website (www.aegisprotect.co.uk) enables you, via a secure portal, to retrieve your insurance documents, make a midterm adjustment, such as contact details, and notify us of a potential a claim.
For any claims, please also contact us, on the details below, and we will endeavour to assist you, accordingly.
Alternatively, you can contact us directly, by email on info@aegisprotect.co.uk or call me (Peter Blackmore) on 07711926110.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be delighted to assist you accordingly.
