Superformance .222.

That’s interesting K - never had the smokey neck in many thousands of N120 x 19gns and 50gns Vmax including in PPU. All my 50 VMax are loaded to 2.175” in a chamber 60 thou longer so fairly short compared to others and I do apply a fairly good crimp.
Out of interest I wonder what PPU case volume is compared to others?
Many years ago BC (Before Chronographs) I worked up to 20.5 gns and 10 thou jump but didn’t get any great advantage and the thought of 1.5 gns saved per round convinced me that 19 was quite enough. Now call me old fashioned but…..

PS
My remmy hates 52gns Vmax!
I’ll check the capacity of PPU and Hornady cases.
My 52 grain ones are Sierra hp but the most accurate ones were the Berger 52 FB Target ones, unfortunately Bergers are almost extinct at mo.

Picture of some cases from yesterday.
19/19.8 and 20 grains of N 120 loaded into once fired PPU brass.
Some that I shot yesterday at 100 yards. In a fair gusty wind.

Bit concerned why cases should start sooting up for no apparent reason.

Hmmm.
Odd that this has just started - defo poor obturation - neck sized I take it so is it the same with other brass KB?
Or some die adjustment required - I am assuming there are no pressure signs of course.
I would try a firm crimp too…

These were full length sized.
I’ll load a few with Hornady’s once fired cases and see what happens.
Thanks, KB.

To get the pressure up?
Can do as these 0.010 from lands and much longer them factory ammo.
Thank, KB.
Yep - as per earlier post mine are 60 thou from lands and firmly crimped so plenty of rattling space for you but do start back at low powder weight - I use only 19gns and obturation is fine.

Hmm, do you clean off the lube after FL sizing, could be burn marks?
As for those Bergers, incredibly accurate, although a target bullet they turn foxes inside out, I'll have a count, see if I can spare a few?

Can’t understand why this has just recently started though…

Hi Mr Tree,
You might be on to something there!
I used to dip them in the sonic cleaner after sizing but sold the bugger!
So I’ve just been wiping them over with paper towel and doing inside the necks with cotton buds.
Very poss. there’s still Imperial wax evident to be burnt off.
Will wash the next ones and see.

Would appreciate some more Bergers if you can spare any.
Thanks, KB.

Well,
Fired some more on Sunday with 19 grain N120.
Cases were cleaned of Imperial but still some blackening but not as bad.
Today I loaded some more with virgin brass and will see how we do on Thursday.

Hi,
After going as far as I can in developing a load for my 222 Bergara break barrel I thought I’d try some factory rounds.
Weather was inclement at rang this morning so went on 50 yd range.
Superformance 50 grain vmax and Superformance 35 grain NTX. (Non lead core)
Looks like the freshly cleaned barrel needed a few foulers.
Scope is 1.5-6 FFP (Thick reticle!) so not the best for group shooting.
I didn’t shoot over chrono; but if the ammo box info is anything to go off, trajectories pretty good out to reasonable (To me🙂👍) distances to point and shoot.
I only shoot superformance 50 grain vmax in my cz .222 I dont shoot enough to reload and ive found them to very accurate, ive always been spot on with them, whether my barrel is spotlessly clean or fully fould they never miss a beat
