Red stag - Worth scoring ?

A trophy is a very personal thing, in my honest opinion I wouldn’t waste the £25 It will cost you to get it measured. What does it matter if it makes me or not? It’s a lovely stag put it on the wall and be proud of it.
Nice to have a shiny little medal to go with it :) The few that are on my wall are probably ones you would chuck but as you rightly say they all mean something to me and act as a reminder of the stalk rather then being a trophy in the true sense..stuff like first fallow, first decent roe (well decent to me) first sika stag, first munty etc.

Horses for courses :)👍

No it’s really not, just Cheap amd nasty bit on time that, means F all

🥰 Well thats me told. If it means F all to you then dont do it...if it does then go for it... As I said if your happy (well not you personally as that would be a miracle ) thats the main thing. If we were all the same...god help society 🥰
I’ve not done it for about 15 years, unfortunately the stalking world in reality is doomed because really, I would love to see a blanket ban on shooting anything with antlers because it’s pointless the problem is with the females and the sooner people realise that the better but I’ll get off my high horse now

No issue and dont think your on a high horse at all. I agree that the only way to control deer numbers in a sustainable way is to shoot does/hinds and I am relishing the 01st Nov so I can crack on with that as they are all I see at the mo. I also agree that the whole UK stalking scene is mental when you view it sensibly but one we can chew the fat over face to face 👍

That looks a cracker - never shot a red & getting to the age where the desire to shoot all the UK six might get overtaken by the effort it’ll take to recover one 😝 Still need to take a CWD though but that’s not so difficult to handle.

Stick it in to your local CIC assessor, if it doesn’t make a medal there’s no charge I believe.

👍

You’re in for a rum education when you come to me, me old Cocker😂

If you shoot something within your management plan that may measure well, why not. It can (emphasis on CAN) be indicative of great deer management.

As to the OP I am not an expert on red trophy’s, although become more clued up of late, have a peruse of the CIC website and you see what the measurements are and what was awarded. Loosely a 6kg head 12 points or above is bronze territory. It would look like yours is well worth a measure.

Thanks, as herself says, regardless it’ll be a great coat hanger 😂

Might be helpful if you had another look at the current CIC score levels, as these changed with effect from 1st July 2025. The score levels for medal awards have been reduced and are now Bronze 130-144.99 Silver 145-159.99 and Gold +160
