Why are people selling Alpex 4Ks so often?

I thought it would have been the other way about 🤷‍♂️the LRF is a game changer .
I suppose it could be if it’s your only means of confirming distance.
I’ve got 2x Zulus and 2x 4K Alpex and they are all non LRF versions.
My LRF is in my thermal spotter so i know the distance and have my holdover calculated before i even take my rifle off my shoulder, also can confirm i’m in shooting range before settling up for the shot, handy when out on the rabbits with the rimfire so you aren’t faffing about pressing buttons working out distance etc all the while the rabbit is sat there waiting to be shot if he hasn’t buggered off already.
Certainly don’t need a ballistic calculator to shoot deer or foxes with my centre fires, been doing it long enough and as long as i know my distances with the spotter there’s no need for any more witchcraft😉

I guess that early adopters are selling because they want to early-adopt the newest, bestest image, not because the Alpex 4k is deficient. I have the Alpex Lite on my .17hmr and the biggest benefit is the additional time after sunset. The biggest drawback is having to remember to charge it before a session - it loses charge in the cabinet. I’d like the full fat Alpex 4k, but it would ruin the .17hmr with its weight. I’m still considering if it would work for woodland stalking but glass suits me fine at the moment, as range and therefore ballistics is not a problem I have to solve. However, for a dedicated foxing rifle…this is now an itch, that I hold the SD Massive entirely responsible for…(Mated with a .222 perhaps…or too heavy for that?)

The huge advantage of the Alpex is that on a gloomy winter's afternoon you can get a good look at the deer long past the point at which optical gives you just a vague silhouette. It's nowhere near as good an image from my S&B in brighter conditions however, especially if its raining!
I don't think that I'll part with mine in the near future although it may be that high end glass combined with a front end NV add on is a better option?

Bruce addressed a number of issues with forward mounted NV gear that is scope mounted

The pic rail mounted kit is different

I’ve an alpen and it works - get used to using it - ignore the image quality in daytime bright light (you can ajust to get it reasonable )

The low light ability's far outweighs any day issue

I won’t be selling mine

The no pix is another price bracket entirely

For a cheap entry to low light I don’t think anything comes close to the alpen

There was a fad many years ago with "light weight" pigeon equipment Keith, tiny rotary's spinning fabric decoys so people could carry the kit a long way then they shot a 100 pigeons and had to make 3 trips lol
Ha ha, I get it. I use my Alpex 4k a lot but it is on a 12lb outfit that is ideal for short stalks and high seat. I am looking at putting together a lightweight .243 outfit - hopefully under 8lb all-in - and the 'Lite' looks like a possible contender.

My Alpex Lite lives on my . 222. This is my main foxing and munty rifle.

Day time image is fine - heading towards twilight could sex a small Munty at about 190 yards when I couldn't do so with the naked eye.

I stick to 150 ISH foxing, as my grounds don't require anything further. It is capable with a good IR of that distance - and probably a tad more.

Also been on my 6.5x55 to try it out. No scope rash.

It also has profiles for .22LR, .22WMR .25FAC air and .20 sub 12 air plumbed into it. Needes a bit of time to set up but like anything bit of perseverance improves outcomes.

It replaced an original Apex A50. The colour image it generates at last/first light is slightly less than the original. Also, the original could manage further in NV mode - which isn't surprising when you compare the size of the lenses.

All scopes image quality and capability is subjective - including digital. At the moment the Lite is the best compromise for me and my particular circumstances.

I'll try out the new DNT tubed version when/if it ever arrives and the new Nocpix....... but would need to be a big step forward in user interface/last and first light capabilities to make me change at the moment.

Yes.... you see people go shopping with their 2 empty bags and walk home with their arms stretched with full bags.
I guess a lot have never walked across field with bags of long nets ferret box spade and a slasher dug out the ferret and come back with a dozen.
Far to soft these days
I think you lads are in the second camp lol

I know where your coming from but it’s the fact as soon as I’ve ranged it with the LRF I don’t need to give it any holdover or under , we’re shooting at very very close ranges inside some milking parlours (3m) then it’s anything out to 35m We’re head shooting as many as we can for a guy who gives them to his falcons 😉or should I say my younger mate is , and when you have 30 -40 up in the H beams it’s nice to be able to pick them up with the IR press the button and shoot we don’t need to take our eyes of them . Apart from the bulk and the weight of my Weihrauch I’m over the moon with the set up for £££ .

The lite isn’t anywhere near as good, you’ll regret it
At night, definitely due to the size of the lens.

However I actually preferred the day image on the Lite - the image was a lot brighter/crisper - I assume they use an updated display on it compared to the original.
