And it is happening with you lot in the UK too.

Potato crisp packets are less than half full now. Same size pack, just mostly air. The kids open a pack of ready salted and stare in there going WTF! 🤬

The world is mad, yesterday a guy we used to know (bumped into) said he’s been off work and on benefits for a year because of the stress he’s had since Trump was elected…hang on, He’s Scottish and lives in Scotland!! …stress from Trump being elected??? Unreal, and the state actually paid out on that ground so he can, oh wait, use his benefits in Starbucks where we saw him!
How about this one Lorry driver in the next yard is off work with stress related illness because he got caught stealing and is now off work because he is stressed about losing his job and yes he is on full pay,I kid you not.

I’ve been noticing for a while now everything seems to be getting smaller except me, And I put it down to having to eat more of everything because the chocolate bars etc have shrunk
Like mars bars - cost more with less I. The wrapper 🙈😂

Please don't belittle chronic fatigue. It really is a thing, and it's a bastard to cope with.
If I was employed (rather than self employed) I would have been signed off for the past 5 years, with no hope of that situation ever changing. As it is I soldier on, and some days I'm too weak and exhausted to do anything. No point phoning myself to call in sick though!
Genuine illness, I never poke fun at.
I've been self-employed ever since I left comprehensive school, and like you, as I've got older, I've realised I've been running on fumes for about the last 15 years. But I still work, I'm painting 9 windows in the workshop today, as I did yesterday...

The lass who works for my GF has been a decent worker for a few years. Her situation is that the boyfriend/husband walked out and left her with two small children, she works her hours to meet the requirements of the government to qualify for state top-ups... but if she falls below this for some reason, like one of her children is off school sick, the benefits system gives her Hell... interviews/cuts the whole lot.
She has been trying to get one of her kids diagnosed as mildly autistic for the last two years, it's difficult... but if she's successful she gets much more leeway/freedom... that's her goal... but it will take another few years so she tells us... in the meantime she is playing the fatigue card, she is still going out living it up as best she can... Butlins ****-up weekends with the new boyfriend etc... so I don't think she's very fatigued at all... "swinging the lead" in old speak..

A friend's daughter was diagnosed with ME 30 years ago... Yuppie Flu, so it was called... she looked completely wasted for about 10 years, spending many days bedridden. She manages the situation quite well now, happily married, and managing a country pub, so Rachel is a good news story...

How you manage it ?
Crisps.... here's folk trying to get off crack and heroin and alcohol or cigs....

And here's me trying g to give up crisps ...🫣
Pure willpower :tiphat:

Ps, it was tough... I could eat a whole packet in one sitting... so you know they were addictive...

That is the most disturbing thing I've heard in quite some time . What's really disturbing is that your aquaintance has the b@lls to actually share this with someone and think it's OK . The world is becoming a dumpster fire .

100% agree. I am also struggling with Long COVID, and I know plenty of others also struggling. And they are not the sort who are just the lazy, sit on their backsides etc. They are driven athletes, academics, business owners and entrepreneurs who have just been completely flattened by Chronic Fatigue. This cohort of society wants to get back to leading productive lives, paying their taxes etc etc.

Yet it seems as if the powers that be have quite literally stuck their heads in the sand and ignoring it. There is very little in way of research being done. From a purely financial / fiscal point of view the return to the taxpayer would be huge if we could get all of us suffering back into full, or even part productivity.

The real proof of Shrink/Skimpflation is the humble Curly Wurly.
Us of a certain age will remember buying one of these & sharing with a couple of mates.
Now they literally fit in a child's hand.
Don't even think about crisps now,I ain't paying a £1 plus for a large bag of fresh air with tasteless crumbs in the bottom 🙄

Had CF for two years after serial infections, equalled two years out of work. Never really had my full energy back since, and that’s 10 years ago. Only thing I can compare it to are those with long covid. Not hugely fun I have to admit. Probably adds 10 yrs to you stamina wise, even if you recover.

In the meantime as consumers and supply chain get shafted, the Supermarkets are going from strength to strength

I am no great fan of the supermarkets, but we should perhaps keep in mind that Tesco plc paid £355m in tax on those profits, which I am sure brought a smile to the face of Rachel Reeves. As it happens, for the full year to 22 February 2025, Tesco paid $2bn in direct taxes, and raised another £4bn for the exchequer.

With mutual funds and institutional investors owning 85% of Tesco shares, results like these also help anyone with a private pension.

The reality is that, if we want strong public services, we should encourage successful companies.

Always complain if the stuff you buy is not up to scratch for any reason.....you're spending more and more of your hard-earned on it nowadays.

D.

That's my philosophy exactly, John.
Good job I like cooking as well... Kill it, Cook it, Eat it.
Just made 14 large chicken & creamy leeks pies yesterday 😋

There's a joke here, when discussing obesity and diet.

"The easiest way to lose weight is to eat whatever you want. The only caveat is that you have to make everything yourself."
