For Sale: Ultralight Carbon Fibre GMM Quad Stick Kits

6 sets posted out today.

Should be 3 more sets available at the end of the week.
Rory, thank you for the set you sent me and sorry that I’ve only just got around to getting back to you, but I wanted the time to complete the Carbon Fibre take-down set and send some pictures.

Firstly though, you are a genius, and I can’t underestimate just how well your parts work together and how brilliant the end result is🤩 Anyone on this site should take advantage of Rory’s efforts in producing the best set of sticks I’ve used, and just follow his instructions to the letter for putting them together.

I did make one small change to the take-down tubes though, as I found that a 12/10mm tube inserted with a lovely sliding fit into the 14/12mm Katana tubes I purchased and felt more secure than the 11.7/10mm tube, so I went with that instead. The tubes just slide together and come apart with a nice “pop” such is the great sliding fit with the 12/10 mm tube. I also marked the tubes with a silver Sharpie as that makes it quicker to assemble them, and I’m searching for a spare fishing rod bag now to keep them in and prevent any damage. Mine are made up to 5ft 6in, as I’m a bit short in the leg ;-)

Thank you for your very kind feedback @AndyMacs - It really makes all the manufacturing slog worthwhile!

That's really helpful re the 12/10mm spigots fitting better. I will update my assembly instructions by mentioning this.

That's a beautiful job you've done. The pictures are greatly appreciated!

Hi
Had a set of these off you recently. Excellent stuff, got some carbon rods, perfect sticks. Bloody lost them the other day, left them up against the car i reckon, drove off. Obviously not there when i got back to look for them! Gutted. Anyway, can i order another set?
Cheers Geoff

I'm so sorry to hear! I'll try to get another set out to you next week. No need for any payment.

They're not very common so wonder if your sticks will turn up somewhere?

Hi Rory,

These look very well received and tempting.

Can I ask, is there any plan to do an ultra light set using 10mm carbon rods? - essentially the same thickness as the Blaser Mk2 set up.

That would certainly temp me away from my vipers.

Hi
That's good of you, thanks very much. Yes i wonder, well someone's got an excellent set of sticks, bit wasted though, unless they're a stalker too!

Geoff

Can't say I've thought about it. Just looked up the Blaser sticks and their weight is not really ultralight.

I think 10mm tubes would be too much of a compromise on strength and stiffness for me for the maybe 150g? weight saving. I'm sure the 10mm tubes could work but just not sure what benefits they would offer.

For anyone on the fence with these, I purchased a set and put them together using the instructions, extremely simple to follow.

Unbelievably light and very sturdy, I’m 100% impressed with them, go for it, you won’t be disappointed!

Also, Geoffs an absolute gent to deal with and his shipping is the fastest I’ve seen!

Thank you very much. I hope that your screws arrived - apologies for the hassle!

Sorry, should have been clearer - it’s not really the weight that is of concern, more so reducing the bulk in hand of my carbon vipers with four 14mm tubes.

Not sure what Blasers are, but they are considerably thinner than Vipers and hold up ok.

Anyway, just thought I’d ask as would have a set. 👍

Could these work in a shorty format for kneeling shots if I were to just cut the tubes shorter? Or is there something about the shape/dimensions of the components that would stop it working properly?

Hi, they could work like this, although I'd need to measure the front to rear cradle distance for short sticks to see if it would be satisfactory, as the bottom hinges have a built in stop to prevent sticks opening too far. The standard length sticks can work for kneeling shots if you can get enough purchase on ground to prevent feet slipping.

Thanks - the more I think about it, the less likely I think it is to work (nicely) due to all the angles involved.

Hi guys, I’m new to SD and this is my first post.

I’ve just purchased my first set of sticks (viper flex elite plus - aluminium) haven’t taken them stalking yet but immediately they feel very heavy and bulky so I’m considering returning them.

Would love carbon fibre but the viper flex carbon fibre are £365!!!

I would like to purchase this DIY kit if it’s still available with take down to make them more compact for storage. However, the DIY process seems a bit daunting to me. Esp after reading the post about using different diameter to ensure a better fit.

1. Is the kit still available (take down + 5th leg attachment)

2. Can I purchase them complete to save me f’ing them up during the DIY process 🤣 (seriously! lol)

Don’t mind paying a bit extra for you assembling them and posting out (Parcel Force / Royal Mail charge £10.80 for this size and weight).

@takbok please could you pm me?

Thanks

@tom308w lovely setup! Thanks for pic.
