Extra Calibre Rifle.......

Can of worms just about to be opened.

I have a 30.06 which I shoot most species with and moved to non toxic.

I also have a .243 which I just sold as it was not being used.

Im looking at another calibre, to reduce the pressure of my 30.06 and of course who doesn't want another rifle.

Not going to be Creedmoor W*&nker (LOL) but thinking of maybe 6.5x55.

I shoot Roe upwards and happy to use the 30.06 but want a second calibre, preferably for hind and fallow doe cull and must take non toxic.

Why are you avoiding one of the most widely used, versatile chamberings? That really doesn’t make much sense - there are high numbers of rifles available in Creedmoors, lots of ammunition and components available and you can load anything from 95 to 156gr meaning it’s in 30-06 territory and will drop anything in the U.K. with authority and be ballistically superior to many “traditional” chamberings at longer ranges.

To avoid it would be foolish and akin to not touching your mate as another one of your mates shouted “jaundice”…..🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Some thoughts.

Have a think again about the 243 with a faster twist barrel - there are now a few about and they will stabilise the heavier 100 ish grain non toxic bullets. Most standard 243 will stabilise 80gn non toxic.

6.5x55 works very well, ditto 7x57. Both have always had fast twist barrels - there are now originally shot long heavy for calibre bullets. Non toxic factory ammo options are available.

270 Win - fast and flat shooting and good on open ground.

Many gunshops have limited ranges of non toxic ammo. My view is that as things change they will have to adapt and stock a greater range of non toxic ammo, otherwise they will not be able to sell any ammo.

As already noted the 243 win would sit in really well together with no real overlapping . So larger than 30-06 is not really more useful ( unless your going out for dangerous game ) and for CWD , Muntjac , Roe is a bit too much gun . Only thing i can think of is 223 rem or the likes , only downside is English law means no Roe so Roe in Scotland only ! Trust me its a PITA when Roe appear when your looking for CWD and Muntjac and only Roe are seen
All i can think of is "Have you got need of a Dangerous Game rifle " ? You see the 30-06 Carries a lot of uses and the 243 you seem to dislike is actually the perfect bed fellow . There is a reason its been and still is very , very popular in the UK and most deer shooting , fox etc . Best "climb down" cartridge instead ? 243Ackerly ???

Embrace diversity and social acceptance ... get a 6.5 Creed
Embrace cave dwelling and believe the earth is flat ..get a .270

Ive got a creed and love it (im ugly, smell and dont have nice hair but am indeed a w*nker)

You don’t have to actually OWN a Creedmoor ! 😁

I've got the .30-06 and 6.5x55 barrels for my Merkel Alpinist, just about to get some Sako 120gr coppers to try in the 6.5x55, partly to see how much flatter they shoot, and for UK Roe. I will confess to also having an application in for a 6.5CM, (I have a thick and luxuriant head of hair but no man bun or beard) buying a Bergara HMR Pro (one careful owner) for the range and as a heavier more stable stalking rifle when suitable. CM ammunition options in factory so much better than Swede.

Swedes are cool everywhere, Creeds are available everywhere.
dont forget about the swedes german cousin, the 6.5x57, - when he shows up at the party he makes the previously cool and cultured swede looks ordinary and common ,)
And due to a lack of current popularity, one can likely find some very nice traditional wood and steel 6.5x57s rifles for sale, but it would be a reloaders option for sure. PPU sells cheap 6.5x57 ammo, at least here in northern europe, and one can then harvest the brass for reloading. 🤠
