Being close is a true thrill.

Awesome - loved the freeze with foot in the air - that’s why I don’t bother with camo - movement and scent are the issue. What a sound! Can you call them in? Not sure I’d want to disappoint a big boy like that…😂😳

You can. With the Ed sceery call we use on sika. I thought that too. Definitely an incentive to keep still

You know I can’t stop watching this. I have been close to a lot of stuff many
Many times in Africa. Including elephant. And I mean 15 yards. But this is awesome inspiring. What are the chances of getting guided into a bull like this? @albertaboy. @mountainbug. Any recommendations. Thoughts on costs. And what else available at same time of year

There are a lot of opportunities for Elk out here . They have a huge range and hunting techniques vary a lot . You can get into a hunt like the one above in Alberta , BC , Montana or Wyoming for about $ 10,000 , sometimes less , it depends on you . You can spend a lot more if you go all in with a horse back hunt into the more remote wilderness areas , those were the hunts that I used to guide . It's a chunk of money , but when you have a Bull screaming at you up close , you'll realize it was worth it . Elk hunting is a sickness brother , trust me lol .
Additional species will vary from state to state and province to province . Most outfitters here , actually , all of the ones I worked for , will offer either Wolf or Black Bear at a very low cost . BC is pretty much the same . It does change from year to year , but there is always other species available . I couldn't honestly pick one area over another , there's great hunting from Alaska and Western Canada all the way down to Arizona . The work comes in when looking for a good outfitter , it pays to do your homework . Let me know if I can help .

I honestly wouldn't know about this. My land and home is in a wintering area and the elk only live here for 3-4 months of the year. The herds normally show up in late December thru January and by this time the bulls have already split off from the main herd. Also, the private land tags that allow for hunting this late in the season are cow only.
I have been this close to cows and calves however on what I consider a meat hunt which is not nearly as thrilling.
Only twice have I drawn a bull tag in twenty five years and was unsuccessful. This year I have drawn one and hope to experience something like the above post, so fingers tightly crossed.

Chances of getting guided into a bull like this are quite high in my or neighboring states and can cost anywhere between $6-20,000 depending on the area. I would surely be happy to help find a guide if you are interested.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Scott, hope you have close encounter and great experience whatever the outcome.
I managed to stalk in pretty close (15-20 yds) to 3 Eland bulls in South Africa last month. Truly a magic moment and was quite mesmerised by their sheer bulk and silent majesty. Whilst I didn't have a rifle with me, it was one of the memorable moments of the trip.

Thank you Jim. I have always been content with a freezer full of meat as my trophy with the exception being one season of pursuing an old non-typical bull that I discovered on a neighbors ranch. As I found out however, he didn't live to that old age by accident and was always one step ahead of me. To rub my nose in that fact, he destroyed a small juniper tree where I had sat on my first day out. Looking at the tree I could almost hear him laughing while raking it to bits.
Last year I decided that it was time to try again for a nice bull but never did find one, so this year I'm trying again in the same general area.

Beautiful picture you've got there. I can see how an experience like that would change a person.
