Rangefinder Binos

Intresting reading it seems the swarros are the lighter in weight as the els i have now. I will try the three makes in question, but i am swaying toward swarovski, many thanks for all your replies atb steve

Hi Steveford, Having played with the swaros albeit briefly, I would seriously recommend that you try before you buy as SOME people seem to have trouble seeing the display readout, I tried them at the Bisley show and even with the assistance of the very helpful swaro rep I couldnt see the display with any consistency, but who knows they might be fine for you,
Thanks

Exactly the same experience that I had, and the rep obviously had repeated problems! The zeiss offer, whist being very good, possibly implies that there is some truth in the rumour from last year's Dortmund show, in that they are about to launch a new rf bino.

I bought a pair of 10x42 Leica Geovids a week ago to replace my 10yr old 7x42 swaro's. I practically took them straight back, constantly messing around with them and could not get a clear focus. Light gathering was also not good imo. It's what you're used to I guess? I've now got a pair of 10x50EL's while waiting for a pair of swaro range finder bins.

Same happened with me, I thought they were rubbish, got a set of Zeiss RF, perfect, set the focus and leave it, unlike the Leica having to keep refocusing, and the Zeiss have a lifetime (30 yr) guarantee where as the Leica has 5 years and are made in Portugal.

It's the "OLD EYES" Roger there not the same as they were 50 something years ago. !! :D

I could see mine fine once I adjusted the dioptric ring on the left eye to the right place for me because the way the swaros are configured you get the aiming mark on your right eye and the readout display is on your left eye ;)

Once I set the rings right they were perfect.

I've got the Zeiss 8x45 RF's which are superb although they are a little chunky. Looked through the Swaros yesterday at the Shooting Show and whilst I love their standard EL bins I thought their rangefinder ones were also a bit clumsy and the range button doesn't sit naturally beneath your finger like the Zeiss do. I'm not sure if they have the ballistic program on them like the Zeiss do either but 5 minutes on their website would find that out. You're spending some serious cash so I'd try out all 3 brands but given my quick test yesterday I'll be sticking with the Zeiss.
