Only the Brits ? I must be mad.

Just done the dogs and having a cuppa, listening to the rain bolting down.

Shooting a partridge and pheasant day today. Beaters going to have a hell of a job getting anything to fly and despite best kit we will all be soaked before getting to first peg.

Its expensive and supposed to be fun (and it will be a jolly day), are we mad ? is it really just the Brits who will smile through such lunacy.

Hats off to the beating and picking teams.

🤔💦💦💦😂

Have a good day - tbh had some great days and real good flying birds in the rain = almost like the denser air helps ? Anyway the first pint later will be welcome !

As a teenager, It fell to me as the youngest of the crew to go around feeding the flashes, & check out what preening had been going on & where, for planning the afternoon & dusk flights ..... nearly always in weather like that is happening now.

Out of it this year, sick note, but would have been out on moorland beating partridge. However, heavy rain would generally see the day cancelled.

be some rosy faces round the fire in the pub later with steaming dogs curled up at their feet !
Usually up here thats the order of the day - but as much of the country its so bad i can see a few dipping out for a warm bath - a dram and a take away !

I really don’t miss days like these! In years gone by I’d have been doing 3-4 days a week sometimes picking up & it was pretty demoralising getting back to elevenses just as the beaters were leaving & the guns were hoovering up the last of the sausage rolls & any soup that might have been left had gone cold! The only consolation was that generally on really wet days we’d ‘shoot through’ rather than stop for lunch so it meant an early finish, dogs could be cleaned off, towelled down & their coats on & I could be home to a hot bath & a 🥃 followed by supper & a cosy night in!

Still putting the effort in, and with two cockers now, Why' do I fall asleep when I get home? never used to?

BC.
Just like all those years ago when it took "two hands to hold 'him' down, now it only takes one,am I getting stronger?"
dogs could be cleaned off, towelled down & their coats on
What? Imagine after a wet day`s hunting in the Victorian Alpine bush towelling down 20 Foxhounds......nah!

Yes. Like chalk and cheese yesterday. Sunny, no wind, very benign. Today. Bloomin' nasty all around!

Been out in it literally (I only use that word when Literally mean it) for 9.5hr today. So long as you've the right waterproofs, I actually quite like being out grafting in a day like today

Likewise, out all day today in it beating. Got drenched and filthy, had a good crack, watched my yellow lab turn into a chocolate lab within the first sodden muddy field 🤣 it's still been bloody warm mind, looking forward to some more seasonal cooler weather this coming week for sure

I was very partial to duck hunting on wintry wet, windy days when the Teal were flying with after burners lit.
