Winter coat.

Well my snugpak jacket of over 25 years has finally died. I’m looking for a super warm winter coat for sitting out foxing.

They are quite expensive now so any advice on similar coat appreciated.

Arktis mammoth, very warm but not to everyones taste being and over the head design, front pocket is excellent for binos, another arktis offering would be the Avenger coat, traditional design with fleece liner, I've laid out in snow for hours and remained dry and warm

Had this a couple year now wear it for sitting out for fox and wildfowling best £100 a have spent
I've got a ProLogic jacket, which must be 10 years old now. I use it as a rough coat; it refuses to die. The zip is still as good as when it was new. I use it when I'm feeding the pheasants and as a dog training coat.

This my second prologic suit. Had the max 5 camo suit before this 1. had that about 6 year never let me down but the material wasn't as hard wearing and ended up bursting the coat. Had a good 6 years on the foreshore with it though. The 1 I have now is a lot more hard wearing material . Really good zip as well👍

Don’t laugh at this. There’s a Chinese made genuine down parka or anorak that is available on eBay for 30 or 40. It comes in green as well as other colours. It’s very very warm, slightly crinkly but not terrible. I couldnt believe it when it turned up and it actually was down. The zip gave up on mine but I’ll be buying another.

Tk maxx or decathlon are my go to for a thick warm jacket with hood. Just bought another a few weeks ago, £45.
You may have to go in a couple of times, but, works for me.
Heated jacket under, portwest do one for about £70 if you don’t fancy the Amazon £25 jobbie.
Then as others have said, merino wool base layers. Avoid the cheap ones.

Don't overlook the snugpak gillets either. The elite vests offer a 'layering' option to go under the softie jackets that come up big. They were made as a throw over jacket
You may not be moving about much with snugpak on but for the sitting in times they are brilliant.
Auction site has plenty of snugpak stuff. Also army surplus shops/ sites have the softie jacket which is much the same thing.
The sallopettes if you can get them are brilliant. Just don't expect to ascend a Munro in them and not get warm.
Wear my snugpak stuff under my outer layers to stop any snagging/ ripping if stalking in woodland

The Deerhunter Muflon Ram at times is too warm, if its minus, freezing frosty high seat shooters definitely the one to have.

Get another Snugpak.
I have the Sleeka and the Snugpak Sallopettes. Both off an auction site. Had the zips removed from the legs on the sallopettes so they tuck into long socks and into wellies
Worn over merino base layers and under good old DPM jacket and trousers.

Get another Snugpak. Milsurp or secondhand off eBay if you don't want to buy a new one. I've had mine for years and I love it for chucking on over the top of my coat when I'm really cold. It's got duck tape on it to fix a hole but I don't care!
