I hope you are giving due regard to the quality of the bread? The eggs should be the product of hens fed with your own greens, for yolk colour and then lightly scrambled in Irish salted butter and well seasoned with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, before being ladled liberally onto fresh and hot buttered sourdough toast. So, now that’s sorted, is it leaf tea or fresh coffee, or will that thread get me banned by admin?

My gran always let the toast go cold then buttered it profusely. It reminds me of her…

My father in law has quite the technique, a double buttering. Piping hot and oozing out, wait for a bit the butter over that agai! While eating it…

Try that on er, ā€˜butteries’ ( a local to NE Scotland ā€˜in-delicacy’)!

For a richer yolk, supplement the feeding of your Marian crosses with a stripped roe deer back or neck, they’ll pick out the remaining venison, as any worm within 20 yards thereafter makes a leisurely escape. šŸ˜†šŸ‘šŸ»

cheap instant coffee for me, cant stand tea and brewed coffee is too hot and strong.
never tried irish butter and not sure i want to

But you never boil eggs in the USA, I tried when I worked over there to find an eggcup in many kitchen shops but I never found one it is all fried, over easy or scrambled so nothing to dip the toasted and buttered soldiers into.
We had an old 1900 era coal range in our 2 bedroomed terraced slum in Coventry but with a toasting fork holding the bread up to the coals it made very nice toast.
My adopted German daughter is now 57 and she will only eat UK sliced bread after it has been incinerated in the toaster, she says it has no consistency when straight out of the plastic bag.

Of toasted and buttered soldiers…

Pray, take care there now, BB, as opinions here vary,
Or you’ll find to your cost that responses get lairy:

For, in having a taste for some salt with my yolk
Has apparently caus’d much distress to some folk;

Beware of your favour’d and ā€˜Innocent’ desire
ā€˜T’may expose among others, a great deal of ire;
Who here beforehand, have come back with great fury,
Appointing themselves as both Judge and the jury;
⁃ In danger we may find that we’re
no longer free,
To gently, quietly and politely disagree,
But find one’s thread posts here harangued and berated
(By one who has yet to conclude
He’s been baited šŸ˜†)

Eg (g?) down in Tring, there resides a St.range fellow,
Whose views are quite strong, and for certain aren’t mellow;

Aye, blinded with fury he’ll
ā€˜Retort’, full of hate,
(- Which might tell us some, of the poor chap’s mental state)

ā€œButtered soldiers are not the done thingā€ it’s been stated
As my ā€˜glaring mistake’ was thus to me related,
ā€œThe yolk doesn’t stick on the toast evenlyā€
( — Never mind what we both can discern , much less see…)

Butter’d soldiers are certainly a little delight,
— But ā€˜retorts’ from the tropic of Tring may cause fright!

Best we gloss o’er such ripostes so
twisted and bent,
Lest we linger on the author’s displaced temp’rament
— and neither do offer ones method explain,
Or blind fury erupts from their keyboard again!

Though my method applied may have caus’d great contention
ā€˜Tis but a mere matter of yolk’s surface tension:
The salt in this exercise adheres to the butter
(Much to the chagrin of a Hertfordshire nutter,
who may as yet not have received such delight,
Preferring instead to respond with his shi opinion
That effectively ā€œyolk unto butter can’t stickā€
⁃ I’d suggest trying salt (- what an ignorant __ck!)

But his demeanour by now was er, ā€˜somewhat disrupted’
And next (now third time) a missive erupted: ā€œI’m no telepath sir, and so cannot see,
but a spoon made of wood - it’s just your pure fantasy!ā€
( ⁃ The small measure of salt fully visible there, was render’d unseen by my critic’s blind stare)

And so came next sarcasm by yon swivel-eyed loon -
In his fit full of temper he’d ā€˜judged’ one too soon ;
Still smarting at being exposed as a chump
To his keyboard once more he started to thump;
But sarcasm is no replacement for wit,
⁃ The more so, when penn’d by an ignorant git
- It would seem in opinion he may be alone, in preferring an egg spoon of wood, and not bone?

All that fury, and bile, and blind scorn thus invested
Like some ā€˜yolk off the butter’ had seen him now bested;
⁃ Sad for him it appears he had not the good grace,
To admit he had landed with ā€˜egg on his face’….
But —
Who can say what one’s servants to the table may bring,
In such places unknown as the tropic of Tring?

We may, by and by, cast our ā€˜pearls before swine’
And if some choose to doubt them, of course that is fine;
Though a shame, simple pleasures as sliced toast, laced with butter
Can reduce a ā€˜grown’ man unto furious splutter!

But
The solution has thankfully reared into view:
We’d best do ā€˜we’, Tringy,
- and you’d best do ā€˜you’!

So - enjoy butter’d soldiers if it please you, BB,
⁃ But for God’s sake, you’d be best off to dunk quietly… :tiphat:

Butter hell out of it whilst hot .. then lashing of potted hough or potted heed from your butcher
Cup of tea

Oh sir you are my Laureate for sure.
Wifey is now resting in hospital after now becoming a fully bionic housefrau with two titan hips and now a second titan knee so off I must go to the local hostelry for a slap up Schweinbraten mit Dumpling in the Bavarian style.
Oh wow the egg comment has really brought out of the closet our collective pent up feelings.

Poor kid is probably scarred for life. Or Prime Minister. Or both.
They were probably chasing him to steal his cold toast.

I have read many posts in this thread but not all of them and so I might have missed it, but, has anyone preferred brown bread or seeded bread toasted?
