meopta R5 scopes

Iam looking for a better scope to put on my 223, and i noticed those new meopro r5 models, they go for 500 euro here! yet they are supposedly better optically than the optika5/6 and more on the level of the R1. Sounds too good to be true really. Anyone here use one? was looking at the 4-20x50 for treetop grouse, maybe foxes/racoondogs at extended range. 3-15 is also an option, but i wonder if the 3x vs 4x is really going to be a bother compared to the extra 5x i can get, better to have and not need etc.

these things any good? i liked the similarly priced meosport R wich is now discontinued but i felt like it just left me hanging a little in challenging light conditions. Since the R5 line essentially replaces the meosport and optika lines iam curious to hear where the new scopes actually sit quality wise.

Personally i dont mind if they are from china, germany or gods forbid russia. Good glass is good glass at least in my experience so long as the comoany puts their warranty where theie mouth is. From what i understand they are still assembled and checked in their main factory.

From an ideological point of view tho.... I cant say i have any respect for a company that moves into china in this day and age.

I might have to vote with my wallet. We did that when Varusteleka moved production to china under the disclaimer that there is good quality so long as you pick the right factory. They endee up conceding that despite best efforts they where unable to guarantee the workers conditions as they where only ever given the polished visitors tour and ended up switching back to the EU when customers voiced their opinions on the matter. I was one of those customers.

It would appear thats incorrect. Meopta made the meosport and late models of optika 5 in china. All current models are EU made.

If Meopta and retailers are to be believed:

All current 2025 production scopes and moving forward are produced IN HOUSE in their own historic factory in the Czech republic.

The discontinued Meosport R was assembled in house from chinese components.

Been digging deep into the meopta rabbithole lately.

The current production for the public (not counting their pro line for military and law enforcement)

tier 1: the R5

divided into the Meohunter and Meopro
differences are tube diameter, turrets, stuff like that. For some reason the Meohunter lists lower light transmission for the same magnification and objective.

Made in their own factory.

tier 2: R6

6x magnification 30 or 34 tubes, more tactical line and more expensive, should have the same glass as the R5

made in their own factory

tier 3: meostar R

the top line, obviously made in house. Weirdly replaces the superior R2 wich is discontinued. Its more of an updated R1 from what i gather.

Buy the meopta ZD for sale on here if you are close enough to drive over. First class glass and build quality.
