Sweden - Gun Laws to be strengthened

What did I say?

Here we go again.
I think you are stuck on repeat. Are you actually going to contribute anything of substance to this conversation?
Or just constantly regurgitate the same inane baseless drivel?
Even other members who had to give up pistols post Dunblane can see the reasoning behind it. But you don’t say anything to them.
You just sound like a bitter old man to be honest with you, who can’t accept other people’s point of view 👍.

You have more chances to survive being shot by a pistol than a rifle

If the shooter is a novice, and it's their first time firing a gun, I'd take my chances with being shot with a pistol over a rifle any time.... the chance of a novice hitting anything with a pistol are very slim.

Assuming that you are referring to me... I think it needs to be taken in context. Pistol shooting is purely a form of sport (albeit a recognised Olympic sport), with no actual utility beyond leasure activity.

Rifles and shotguns are obviously being used in sport shooting as well, but they also have many practical uses such as farming, culling, hunting, etc. I would very very reluctant to accept further restrictions on these.

I really couldn't find a valid argument in my mind at the time as to why I should be allowed to keep my pistol shooting activities. One of the main issues by the way, wasn't directly for shooters (who got compensated for the pistols and accessories they handed in), but for the trade - importers, retailers, and pistol ranges, who lost income with some losing their livelihood altogether.

Nope! As in all things shooting quarry - it depends totally on where you are shot and chambering.
.45 pistol head shot you are inclined to die; .308 rifle leg shot - not so much but boy it must sting….

I just go by the anti shooting , anti gun garbage you post, not a random internet picture.

But hey, if throwing insults about makes you feel better about yourself then I’m happy to oblige.
Anti shooting and anti gun? Where?
Random internet picture, don’t think so, do a google image search. Do you even shoot? Or just troll internet forums?

More illegal gun crime, but (thank god) no more school shootings with legally held firearms by wanna be Rambo types. Don’t get me wrong, I have shot handguns in America and Poland and would definitely have one if they were legal in this country. But not at the expense of kids safety like in the USA.

We had legally held handguns.
Somebody who legally held handguns shot up a primary school.
We banned legally held handguns.
It’s never happened again.
Handguns were not used for hunting (excluding human dispatch) or defence purposes in this country, they were for target hobby use only.
Derek bird used a shotgun and rifle to shoot 13 ( I think) people, these weren’t banned because they are of practical use.
Maybe gangsters who only tend to use guns against each other are less of a problem than middle aged white men with a Rambo complex? Just a thought.

There two just for a start.

There’s more though

“means people not having access to handguns and semi automatic rifles to practice their tactical double taps down the local range then so be it.”

But aye mate , I’m the troll. Gid yin.

They’re called FACTS!
It’s not anti shooting or anti gun. Hand guns were banned because a nutter shot up a school using legally held pistols. Get over it.

You are right in your assumption but miss the point to a degree. Those shot using a handgun and admitted to hospital have an estimated 10-30% fatality rate, centrefire rifles 50-80% and shotguns 80-95%. Now clearly this only holds at close range but there is a clear difference between types of firearm used.

So we just ignore it then? Allow public access to to semi auto centre fire rifles and hand guns, and deal with the fallout as it happens? Is that what you think we should do?

Yes. Absolutely. Robust licensing laws properly applied then no reason why not?

Don’t you think that ?
We already have some of the toughest gun laws in the world.
Laws don’t stop people losing the plot unfortunately, there have been cases recently where legally held firearms have been used in violent crimes.
Not to mention legally held firearms being stolen and used by criminals. The rules as they stand go some way to limiting the damage caused if someone goes off the rails. Like it or not mental health is getting worse and people seem to be struggling more with day to day life.
In my opinion, the laws we have in this country strike a good balance between public safety and still being able to enjoy shooting sports.

But IOM, NI and the channel isles still allow them "pistols" so your rationale of ban em all seems flawed to me.
Here in Germany hunters are allowed two pistols I was informed during my jagdschein course the main reason being that hunters having gone through rigorous training are quasi at a hobby bobby level of trust and being out alone in the woods at night leaves them vulnerable to attack by scumbags.
We have had school shootings here too sadly mainly the perps were between 18-25 often ex pupils of the school.

You’re basically proving mr correct. Carry on.

I suspect more down to incompetence of the “gangsta” morons who are involved!
Meanwhile in a land not very far away we still have legally held pistols and a thriving pistol shooting community. Oddly enough I have no recollection of any “incidents” where legally held pistols were involved - go figure….
