Hanging metal plate targets

I bought a couple of 4 inch plate targets from Temu, I built a hanging solution from angle iron with some chain hanging the targets off.

A couple of issues:

I attached the chain to plate with bolts initially but they sheared off with the power of a shot.

I replaced them with carabiners but these have also bent with the force of shot. I will try some shackles.

Second issue, checked zero with 7x57 on plate today and it flipped the targets over so that the chain is shorter.

Distance 100 yards, backstop mountain side.

Is the issue just the range, do I need to push out to 200? Thought it’d be handy to have at 100 so I can drive up and take a shot to check zero without having to walk out and distance targets.

On the positive side, the plate is taking hits from 223 and 7mm pretty well with just surface pitting.

Hardened chains shatter.
Heavy softer chains last longer but get chewed up .
Cheap heavy bike lock chain works best for me .
I put bolts through and chain off the bolts .IMG_20220320_102312.webp

You’re wasting your time with chains and the like. ‘The Steel Target Company’ is the answer. You may need to be patient with communication and delivery times though.

If you want to spend the cash, it's great stuff.

I got fed up with chains and shackles and bought some targets and stands from Hugh.
They are well worth it. So easy to set up and never have to worry about breaking anything
