Hi all

By now I am sure most people are aware that there was an Islamic terrorist attack at Bondi, Australia. One of the guns used was a Beretta BRX and that was that for straight pull rifles. Who would have thought terrorism is solved by simply requiring a bolt lift?

So here I am with the better part of $35,000 worth of quickly becoming banned Blaser rifles. My calibres for my main hunting rifle, R8 Success, 22-250, 6.5x55, 30-06 & 9.3x62 and I would like to stay in this group.

I have a K95 and was looking at the calibre options, no 22-250, no 9.3x62 and sure I could go 243w and 9.3x74R but that isn't the point.

Do Blaser make barrels outside of the calibre list currently on the website. I have sent an email but I am being impatient.

So remember terrorist can't operate turn bolt rifles, good to know. :eek:

My experience is this. I have a K95 in 222 on order. Would have marginally preferred 223, so on the basis of ‘shy bairns get now t’ I asked if this was an option. Answer was a simple ‘we don’t make it in 223’. I can understand why and as I said not a biggie. However lead time is 7 months and the guys I bought it from have 9 other rifles on similar lead times although mainly R8’s. I half expected an offer of a custom build, but obviously they don’t do it and they are so busy they have no need to do it. It already costs a King’s ransom so I wasn’t inclined to ask the dangerous question about a custom build.
 
If you go for custom, I would consider a company that does just that.
Blaser are high end factory riffles and allready pretty expensive for what they are offering. That is for regular models, pricing for custom adaptions is exponentially more and, in my opinion, just over the top.
In the end it still is a factory riffle, but you are almost paying Scheiring money.

What is the current (base line) cost of a Scheiring?
 
Wrong question. "What is the cost of a (real and not easy) Blaser custom shop K95?" is the right one....

How dare we be so ignorant to not know how much a Scheiring is... Don't see any prices for new ones online, but the used prices would suggest Blaser still has a lot of catching up to do.

Nothing strange, my point is not about Scheiring, it is about Blasers so called custom prices and they are just too high for a factory gun. Was just trying to stay on topic.

But okay; if you like info about Scheiring try talking to them directly, because they are not very open on pricing. I got numbers between 15-22k euro last year as a strating point, depending on who I spoke to at the Jagd&Hund, but everything was kept a bit vague as to what was in those prices. Got the inpression they were trying to sort the likely to buy people out from the riffraff.
But even 20k+ is not much more than a proper Blaser custom works K95, if at all. The special stand from Blaser at the Jagd und Hund also had prices of 20k+ for something properly upgraded with hand engraving or specialy made one-off parts. Everything affordable was mostly just different finishes, colors, leather etc, but no real changes to parts.
I am really curious about the prices they will be asking for their special anniversary editions of the K95. But no time to go to the Jagd&Hund this year, so....

See above, there are second hand prices of 8-9k euro to be found (sold) and a few pretty high prices for more special rifles. I am guessing they start somewhere around 20k for something nice, but not too intricate. But indeed hard to get proper pricing info.

Hope to have another chat with them in 2027 at the Jagd&Hund, a kipplauf is high on the wishlist and they also have refurbished guns, so still dreaming......😁
 
I made a trip to Ferlach in 2019, in particular I went in to both Hambrusch Fine Guns and Sheiring and spent several happy hours being shown around. I am luck enough to have a combination gun made by the former. I questioned what it would cost to have a similar gun built - very much depends - start at €30,000

I was also told as much as a decent motor car. Indeed I have a book from the 1950’s on shotguns and in there it talks about a good gun costing the same as a decent car.

A Blaser’s are machine made guns, hence a price point well below that of a hand built gun.

A combination gun? That will be more than a single barrel kipplauf I expect/hope?
And I have seen custom Blasers over 30k euros on display, so yeah....

From memory, a TGS Outdoors video covering Beretta and custom engraving by Abbiatico and Salvinelli, once a gun enters a hand engraver's vice, you will be paying similar sorts of £££ regardless of whether the gun is CNC'd or hand filed, as the engraver's time rapidly becomes the significant (or majority) of the price.

I suspect from your discussions with the Scheiring staff, that the €15-20k starting figure would be for something with either minimal hand engraving, or machine engraving at most (who knows may even just be a bare rifle!).

Running off the fixed ££ addition for engraving, yes, you might have seen custom blasers for €30k+, but an equivalent Scheiring with the same level of engraving could possibly set you back €40-50k+ - and this is highly optimistic, as it looks like they have a much larger surface area for engraving...

If you want to have a laugh on how much "optional extras" can add to a rifle price, go onto the Rigby rifles website and play around with their rifle builder. A £40k gun doesn't come with much as standard... My mess around is currently at £60k with limited gold enlays and no engraving! And I gauge that the engraved surfaces on a Rigby rifles are much smaller than on a Scheiring. The 'London Best' Rifle - John Rigby & Co.

Saw the episode, still seems viable a K95 with custom barrels can at least come close to a Scheiring, not saying they will have the same level of detail. Personally I would prefer a Scheiring over a K95 in any form, but I do not really care for most engravings, so that makes a difference.
All this still leaves me very curious how much the specials of the K95 are priced at. Hope they will be priced at the J&H and somebody makes that public....

Hi John,

I’m very sorry you and other legal rifle owners are being punished for no reason. It’s pathetic that the State is trying to ‘do something’ by banning straight pull rifles, and not rooting out the cause. We’ve had it here with bans of hand guns and semi auto rifles. Nothing changes as a result, in terms of criminality, by banning legally owned firearms. Criminality involving firearms here is far higher now in fact than it ever has been. And those that want to will simply use another weapon that’s not a firearm, or get one illegally. This has been vividly illustrated across Europe and elsewhere on many occasions.

Moving on.. Do you get paid out for the confiscation of your Blaser R8 collection?

For what it’s worth I’d add whatever barrels you want for the K95 from the factory. You can put together a group purchase of a certain amount of barrels (say 10 or so) if you want a cartridge that has been listed in the past. For example I have a 25-06 R8 barrel because a shop here ordered them. Standard price paid by me.

Otherwise get something custom made and treat yourself. Book an exotic hunt too.

It’s a **** situation I know, but you can form a silver lining if you squint
 
Swedish police are considering a restriction on elephant rifles because someone may shoot at police stations, they have never been shot at with elephant rifles but they are worried. Legal hunters who gets licence for rifles follows hunting rules and there has never been a hunting period for police stations so they shouldn`t be worried.

That’s quite a reach from your police. I imagine it could be challenged legally given the lack of evidence and the fact it’s completely hypothetical?
