I might have managed another dozen miles or so, but I think I made the most of these pads!

Disclaimer. Car was dealer-serviced three weeks ago, and I was told they'll 'need doing soon'. I've just done a 600 mile round trip with my rear brakes in this condition

My trust in this dealership has been severely dented. If I'd known they were this thin the car would've been parked until they were replaced, never mind being driven to Yorkshire and back!

When I was on the Tools doing on site services if they wouldn’t make it for another 6,000 miles at least they would be changed.Came across an Escort van from another area that had lost the pads altogether where they had worn down so much they had flown out.

I would seriously think about going back to the main dealer and show them these pads. Most pads have a wear indicator on them. Given that these pads should have been checked I wonder what else wasn’t looked at.

Like most modern pads (as asbestos is now long ago not used) these wear the disc also. The days of a set of discs lasting the life of the car are past. The quick fix of the disc is still of serviceable thickness is to grind a chamfer on the edges of the pads. As 90% of the braking force is on the front set of brakes I'd be concerned with the condition they are in for the rear pads to appear so worn.

What are ceramic pads like, are they worth the cost ?

take them into the service dept and ask if they think they should be replaced, whatever the answer, yes or no... you get you know what to say

Less than a mill' on the pad in my hand. The others are all under two. Pretty unimpressed, to be honest. This was a dangerous defect they've let slide. I'll be speaking to the dealership, for sure

Did they give a printout of the pad thickness? When my Jeep goes in i get a printout of all pad thicknesses, this and a little video of them doing it.

Ah, less than a mil is as serious as it can get. A friend of mine brought her car to me complaining about a grinding noise when she braked. When I checked the pads they were down to the metal. She didn’t understand when I wouldn’t let her drive it home!!

What are ceramic pads like, are they worth the cost ?

They're great for track use, but for normal driving I don't think they'd ever get warm enough to work properly?
