Which truck is the every day truck? Problems choosing

I didnt think they were.

Quite a few about locally now.
A mate drives 1 at the shoot hes FT picking up the now.
He thought the 1.9 was fairly gutless and thats wot he drices 6 days a week.
The shoots having quite a few issues with them but they do have about 8 of them and get a fairly hard life. Suspension being 1.

Peoblem is not that many choices nowadays if u want a pick up
I think the sort of people who say they find it gutless are probably the same sort of people who say they get more runners with copper ammo.

I'm planning to get a new truck in the not-too-distant future which will be the every day vehicle which includes driving around the country with work, deer stalking and shooting vehicle, family car etc. I do around 15000 miles a year currently.

I'm looking at the offerings of today and I am having a difficult time picking. I won't be buying brand new but will be buying something that is ideally no older than 3 years and sub 50,000 miles

Toyota Hilux - Theft issues and chassis issues
Nissan Navara - Theft issues
Ford Ranger - Wet belt
Isuzu Dmax - Commanding a premium a less refined vehicle (for a reason, currently my preferred option)
Mitsubishi L200 - Can't seem to find one of these newer than 2020, bit thirsty on the diesel but quite tempted

Am I missing any? I'm keen to hear from anyone that has an opinion on this because I've been searching on and off for half a year now for a truck to replace my aging estate car and can't settle on the right one.

Cheers
Is there any chance you could hire/borrow one before you buy? We had a Hilux for a week and a thousand miles, then had an Isuzu......big difference - the Isuzu was a bit more agricultural, whereas I could quite happily have lived with the Toyota. A friend has a VW Amarok and he loves it, very comfortable and he does a lot of miles in it. Another friend had a Ford Ranger - sold it and bought a LWB Landrover, he said it was more reliable than the Ford!

Possibly but thats his opinion.
And not as if even towing, just driv8bg it off road every day.
Estate wishes it never moved to them.
We have similar discussions to this about pick ups often, he woukd not recomnend 1 now after 3 yrs of driving them.

But like tractors, guns, boots etc everyone prefers a different colour

Do you have much personal experience of the 1.9 Isuzu?
I'm guessing not!
It is far from being "gutless". I admit I was sceptical, but having been driving one for a couple of years now I'm continually impressed. Tows 3.5 tonnes (and more!) with ease, and I'm regularly doing a 700 mile round trip towing those sort of loads.
It's also the first 4x4 I've ever had that doesn't lose traction pulling a load up our steep farm

Well good guess as I wouldn’t buy one due to this had one for two weeks and didn’t buy one due to my thoughts on the vehicle if your happy your happy fair enough but as stated in the thread it’s my opinion on the above vehicle. Sorry that I may have hurt your feelings saying gutless but my old fourtrak would out pull this everyday of the week. Again sorry

So I have an Isuzu D-Max 2.5 TD, Look after it and it will look after you. Mine has never had any of the DPF issues in my ownership, turbo fine, moderate power. But I can only recoment isyt job is putting a terrain tamer parabolic spring kit on as a must. Drives better, axle articulation makes it supberb offroad, just a thought. Mine has 130 K on it and drives much like when I got it with 60K on it. I have put diff locks on too, which has also transformed it for serious offroad, but I suspect you may not intend in getting knees deep!
Ohh and get the high spec, i have the UTAH and the extra is worth it. The suspension change means I can travel clear of most obstacles and dont need $ wd anywhere near as much as the wheels stay on the ground a lot more!

No hurt feelings, don't worry about that :tiphat:
I just find that a lot of people who've never driven one have formed such a strong negative preconception that it must be poor due to it's small engine. I nearly fell into that trap myself, but having bought this one when I needed a vehicle in a hurry I'm very glad to report that is most definitely not gutless, and I'd have another the same, without question, when the time comes to replace it.

(And I am a big fan of the Fourtrack, too. I had two. They were my first 4x4s, and for their size I reckon they were unbeatable).

Talk about not pulling the skin off a rice pudding and you bring the fourtrak in to it 😂😂 come on. They're as gutless as a jimny!

I dont find the Isuzu too bad. Sure if you've come away from a 3.2 ranger it is a little down on power but we're not talking much. The Isuzu will do all thats needed. It's definitely the best option of whats been mentioned!

I've had a 2017 series 5 L200 auto for the last 5 years and with regular maintenance it has been faultless. High 20's mpg around town, 40+ on motorway with AT tyres, comfy and quiet.

2018 L200, auto. Owned from new, only issue was a split intercooler pipe, replaced under warranty. Parts are avaliable. Now done 80,000 miles and other than the hose as mentioned above its been faultless, driven all over Europe, tows well, and good enough for my needs off road with AT tyres. Comfortable on a long trip and plenty of power when needed. My biggest concern is what the hell I'm going to buy when it's time to change, the new L200's look great and specs good, but not avaliable in the UK.

Hardly, my old SWB D49 YEG, 2.8 Diesel, may not have been quick (didn't have a turbo), but it could tow as good as anything... might have looked like a Suzuki on growth hormones, but workwise a different thing altogether.

If you don’t need a towing big trailers pickup, which does family car duties, stalking and shooting truck on a budget look at a low mileage 2.0 Amarok, plenty of room, very car like so reasonable for family drives.
There’s got to be compromise on which pickup does all things for you, some are more work focused and others leisure focused by their spec of bells and whistles.

2018 triton, 140,000 k not missed a beat, great on fuel, not the fastest off the mark, but cruising at 100 k in 5/6 all day.
Loads on the road over here, same supplier as ranger, and they will tell you to avoid a ranger unless you like down time.

Massively under powered. Struggled with a decent load on it. Slow as slow gets. Gutless. Ive had the unfortunate pleasure of working on a number of them and subsequently driving them.

I'd have one over a jimny because thats what the jimny should have been, albeit with a pokier engine. Shame they never released a TD jimny and its a Ballache doing the PD conversion 🙃

I have a 400bhp Amarok new Toyota hi-lux and a fourtrak and the fourtrak will **** all over them off road it’s that simple so don’t slate the fourtrak it’s the best of the fleet 🤭

Never had a problem.
So many off them in uk, plus i think u can buy after market parts for them too.

I think i was told starting to export Tritons to uk shortly, which i think is the Ozzy name for them
Parts readily available at specialist suppliers such as Milner and Mitzy Bits plus you can source genuine at dealers in the UK or via Parts Souk

Healthy supply of used spares too if that’s your bag
