The “best” as in most lethal .22 LR ammo is HV hollow point for small stuff and the old “Super X Dyna point” for just about everything else that you would sensibly launch a .22 LR at. The HV solids also have their place.
Dont ask me how I know this.
In the UK, you tend to be very noise conscious, so you tend to steer clear of the HV fodder, thats unfortunate, because the HV stuff is actually far more effective on game, thats why HV hollow points are so popular with game shooters everywhere else.
SD appears to be trying to compensate for the inherent lack of energy and lethality of Sub sonic/Target ammo by modifying the bullet shape. Depending on circumstances, that may not be a bad solution. Compared to HV ammo, sub sonics and standard velocity rounds are quiet, with or without a moderator, they just dont have the same energy.
I have blown rats and rabbits in half with the hyper velocity hollow points and have given up shooting rabbits with anything other than target ammo because of the damage. Target ammo is all I use now ( unless I was specifically targeting sheep or goats), its not perfect, but it works.
I’d love to test those modified rounds head-to-head against their un modified siblings for accuracy and trajectory out to around 100M.
Not criticising, just curious.
