Is this the ultimate long range Foxing setup ?

I am after a Foxing rifle setup in .223 to keep down running costs and for quietness. For Deer I can go with someone else. Of course there will be varying opinions but this is what I plan to put together.

I am looking to buy a used Tikka Tx3 Lite .223 with or without a stock. I am going to fit a MDT Chassis stock XRS FDE with a full length Arca rail to Mount direct to Arca on t he Rekon tripod and also to mount the MDT GRND-POD Bipod.

I am also seeking one of the quietest moderator available due to my permission locations. The risk of buying the .223 Rifle long distance through RFD is the barrel condition. Not everyone is 100% honest on their cleaning regime / shot count and of course I can't bore scope it. Most will be up front with usage of course.

I am still looking to buy all of the above in used condition and I would welcome your experience / views on all of my above setup. It's a lot to think about

In addition - does this sound like a sound setup for longer range Foxing, as on a lot of my permissions Foxes need to be taken at range, as IR shy as others use IR on neighbouring farms and the Foxes have been badly educated. I do mainly ambush shooting.

What made you choose .223 as your foxing calibre?
Just curious.
It's not one that I have much personal experience of.

Basically I need the quietest Centrefire option there is, Having grown up using .22rf with limited range on foxes, .223 is a massive step up. Big isn't always better.

I prefer .243 over my .223 if shooting past say 150 in the wind a heavier higher BC is a big help

Fair enough 👍
Personally I'd go 22-250 if I was looking for a dedicated foxing rifle. But maybe it would be a bit louder than a .223? I don't know.
It is like 2x as loud, of course it is a great choice for many where noise is not such an issue.

Of course, but with 2x the amount of powder it's a no no for me. Mark Ripley's choice of nighttime calibre is .223 👌 Anemometers are an essential piece of kit once you stretch the range and takes seconds I would say and generally there is often more time when shooting at range, but that's just me.

Good shout, 1:8 twist T3x gives you the choice to use heavier bullets to better cope with wind at long range
100%, my choice of twist also 🦊 VMax 55g for general use seems perfect and respectable MOA in this rifle configuration and calibre.

Define long range. You've been silent on the optics which is a key part of suitability at range. Don't skimp on the moderator if you require the best suppression. Also get a decent length barrel that allows the powder to burn (plus you might get better speed).

Thankyou Eric. I am waiting for the Nocpix D70R to be released. What moderator would you recommend, happy to pay for the right one for my needs ? Not sure what spec the T3x Lite barrel is offered in 🤔

Contact onelesscharlie he on here
He built me one for my 17 hornet it’s a quiet as 17 hmr when a had a dpt on it
The hornet is deadly accurate out to 300 +
A think it would be humane enough to take a fox out at that range
Head shot

Bait them - with thermal no need for long range foxes really

I’ve got both a howa in 223 and a tikka in 22250. Noise wise there’s not much in it, I can’t really tell the difference.
I run the 223 with a Freyr and devic mod and a evo on the 22250.
Of the cartridges the 223 uses 24grain of powder to 36grain for the 22250.
Both will chuck a 55grain vmax. One at 3200fps vs 3600
The howa is on par with the tikka but I have had to tweak the trigger and safety catch. You can buy a howa barrelled action for 600 ish.
I like the howa 223 for its reduced weight
I like the tikka 22250 because it’s a 22250 and it’s f-ing cool.

Another option if you fancy one would be a new tikka t3x ace game .
When you buy a 2nd hand 223 xrs chassis and arca rail you might not be far off the price of it.
The ace comes with a built in arca rail.

If you're going to all that effort chassis wise, you may want to at the new tikka ace games (if you can find them!).

Shot one in .223 last year and was very impressed. Not crazy money as well!
