Tikka t3x 22.250 barrel knackered

You could try rolling a 1/2 inch ball bearing around the crown. This can highlight any rough spots or you can even use lapping paste to fix it.

Hold up, you're complaining that a company won't warranty repair a rifle thats out of warranty? 🤔

I also don't believe you've found your problem. Strip the rifle to parts, rail included and start fresh. Build it back up and Torque everything down. If you're shooting reloads, try factory or try a different brand of ammo

The crown does look damaged, cleaning rod damage perhaps?

Also, that pitting wont affect accuracy, Tikka barrels will rust easily, especially when bringing in from the cold,. The condensation needs dealing with. I use Renaissance wax on all my Tikka rifles now, (all
stainless), this has stopped my corrosion issues - although this just tends to be cosmetic and hasn't ever affected accuracy,

The Crown looks damaged to me too.
As others have said strip it down and reassemble it and shoot it again with good ammo.
If it still won't shoot take it to a good riflesmith and have him examine it. Maybe a recrown is all it needs

When on the very odd occasion I do a deep clean on my Tikka T3X it takes at least 12 rounds through the rifle before my grouping settles back down, Clutching at straws here but how many rounds have you put through since you last done the deep clean you mention

100 ish but it’s had patches through it after every outing and doesn’t look dirty you see. Ive thought about doing deep clean but was advised it wouldn’t make a difference as it’s not that dirty 🤷🏻‍♂️

What sort of ammo are you using? How many rounds have been put through it? What do you clean the barrel with?

That crown looks nicked and rough to me. At least the picture on the left does around the 6 o'clock area. It should be a smooth angled radius but that looks nicked and rough to my eye. Not the best picture though, so hard to say definitively. Maybe the lack of focus is throwing me a swerve ball as I would expect a gun shop to spot that if it is what I am seeing. Or i might be blind

That crown won't be responsible for a 6" group IMHO. But prove me wrong by deploying the profiled wood dowel and fine valve grinding paste remedial treatment.

K

Some better pictures of the crown

Hi ya…. I have over the years shot out 3 different t3 supervarmints in 22250. They all lasted in excess of 3500 rounds each and to be fair would have still been alright for a while yet but they were deffo starting to open up in group sizes. They all expired slowly and opened up over a long period of time. Not good today and bad tomorrow as you experienced. I’ve seen the inside of a barrel look much worse than the pics you are showing and still shoot fine. In honesty the main section of your barrel is fine. You do however need to get it recrowned. Your crown is knackered. Now don’t take this personally….. it’s meant as help…. You may well find that your cleaning regime is a large part of your problem….. most crown damage is caused either by rope wear due to badly pulled bore snakes or excessive cleaning by people usually pushing patches into a barrel in reverse or hitting it with the metal connection part of a bronze brush when scrubbing action gets vigorous. Get her crowned and I suspect you will have many happy hours with her yet.

Thank you very much for your comment if I’m honest I can’t believe no ones picked up on the crown being damaged including myself before this thread. Also People push patches in from the end of the barrel? 😬 Ill get it sent to a gunsmith and hopefully he confirms what you say and he recrowns it

The only other thing I’d check before I sent it anywhere is the head space….. get yourself a set of go- no go gauges and check it. One of the afore mentioned burnt out tikkas threw be a merry dance at one point with a badly gauled up lug on the bolt. She wasn’t holding the round true to centre in the chamber at the point of firing. You might even see the fouling marks on the lugs of your bolt if this is an issue….. good luck with it all.
