Shot placement with a difference

Sioner they find their way into north cornwall the better 🤣
There speaks a man who doesn’t have to try & keep their numbers down…

We have been absolutely hammering them this winter & the buggers are still everywhere! - as well as this one I saw another 7 yesterday & if the wind hadn’t swirled just at the wrong time I’d have had at least one, possibly, two more of them in the chiller.

They’re popping up on the trail cameras more than the fallow are 😳

100% NOT criticising you... just learning here, but is that considered a safe shot? I personally cannot see whats behind, but i would worry pulling the trigger there.

As I say, Im not trying to be a nob honestly, just interested on your call and what you know, that i dont know about whats behind!

Asking purely to learn and understand myself... not be a nob i promise!

As your question perhaps hasn't really been addressed to your satisfaction (unless you've received a DM) I thought I would just put my own point of view across, in the hope that you might find it helpful.

When I see a very experienced shooter indeed, put up a photo like this, you can be rest assured that although WE can't see the back stop, you know that he must've done his homework, he probably knows the ground like the back of his hand, he's done his shot assessment, et cetera, et cetera. Because it's HIS job to justify every single shot for HIMSELF, and really that's what matters.

Each individual shooter must ensure that every single shot they take is safe. I absolutely get where you're coming from when you ask that question, and on the face of it, it does not seem like an unreasonable question in any way. All I can say is that when I see a photo like that, from an experienced shooter, I personally tend to think that just because I can't see a backstop does not mean that there isn't one. My other personal way of thinking about it, is that, I don't believe it's right that we as shooters should justify every single shot we discuss or photograph, otherwise we as a community are on hiding to nowhere. And that's another reason why, when I see a photo like this I personally try not to insert myself into the justification for the shot. But that's purely my own personal way of thinking. I get that you're just trying to learn - like the rest of us - and that is only ever a good thing. Best wishes👋

Apologies @Fudge1187 (aka @bigmac_no32) for late reply, only just seen this post as in between working I’ve been out shooting deer.

To put you at rest, it was a safe shot.

As for not trying to be a knob (correct spelling), if that was the case why did you post this in the first place?
