I've read many times about your RFDs having a glut of beautiful shotguns that few people want because they are not proofed for steel. Was wondering what the chances might be of finding a properly fitted side by side while I'm over this Fall and bringing it home. I've not done any research on the the legality of it yet, but thought I would throw it out there. What do you fellas think?

Can’t see an issue

I believe that you can’t import military conversions into the U.S.

I tried to give away a Mauser 98 in 404 Jeff once.

However import proved too difficult

Shotgun should be possible if expensive?

cant see it being an issue apart from how the dealer would give it to you to leave the country with , maybe a temporary cert here ?

I've had temporary certs before and once upon a time they were not a problem to gain. I'll look into it. This is sounding promising so far. Now where are those nay-sayers?

At our local auction, I’m lead to believe that a lot of the nice English guns are snapped up by a dealer who acts on behalf of a US buyer.
They make reasonable money but only a fraction of what they would have 10 years ago.
I’m sure you can find a bargain somewhere when you visit.

I was staggered by the sheer number of shotguns in this month's Harpers Field auction in Stroud including Holland & Holland, Greener, right down to new Berettas. It was an eye opener! There were beautiful guns going for £50!
 
@Edinburgh Rifles has had plenty of Americans buying really nice guns. So too do many other dealers.

If they have a visitors permit it allows them to acquire a gun and then take it with them and they then have to deal with paperwork, otherwise they are sent across. Plenty of UK gun dealers and auction houses are regularly shipping guns to the US. If you are sending one gun it’s expensive, but if it’s part of a consignment of several guns the cost is much less per gun.

Go for it. Any particular maker in mind.

I have a Fred Beesley. Bought with a snapped stock. A good friend re stocked it for me and made new screws and hinge pin. Barrels are sleeved but it matters not to me. Just means it will last longer and hopefully be cherished by another generation.
Circa 100 years old and shoots and operates beautifully. 1 of a pair. I often wonder what happened to number 2

Most definitely.

I used to live in US for 15 years, when my dad passed, I wanted to take his shotguns back with me to US.

I got a temporary ticket from the local force with the shotguns on. EVERYTHING was checked at Heathrow, they took me into a private room and checked everything Certificate, serial numbers etc.

I did have a valid FOID card, when I got back to Chicago, my guns were in their case on their own in the oversized baggage area like all the other oversized luggage.

I picked them up and walked out through customs without a single check or request to see what was in the case.

Happy days.
 
Ask Graham McKinley in Glasgow. He ships a lot of guns to the states, and has a fair stock of very nice guns from the cheap to the eye watering. Google will give you his website .
 
If you contact Harper field I am sure they would assist you.
Remember 20% and VAT to be added to the hammer price.
Air rifles made silly money as did shot gun cartridges. I looked at some of the rifles you would need to be careful.
There is a gun shop who post on You tube reviews of the shot guns at auction it's worth watching.
