I hate the vets, talk to me like I wouldn't know which end to feed a dog at and want a weeks wage to enter the building.
£200 for four bravecto tabs and then announced one of the spaniels needed a consultation....another £50.....wtf, yes the dog fine. Dog mafia!!!
Anyway time to consider an alternative.

Have a look at Frontpro tablets online. Very similar ingredients to bravecto, and no prescription needed. Might be just the trick for your dogs next time 👍

£200, that's thievery .......
Last Bravecto Refill here in the US for the Australian Shepherd was $145 - £120

My vet will put largest size Bravecto on the prescription.
75 kg bodyweight strength when my Labradors are only half that weight. Meaning I only need to buy half the amount of Bravecto 👍
The difference in price between terrier and Great Dane strength is literally a couple of pounds per tablet.
Need I add I always have a few cuts of venison with me that I leave with the vet 🤣

I've posted on here before about the seizures Bravecto I believe caused in our 6th Hungarian Vizsla so, after much research, discussion with numerous vets, I stopped using any tick "prevention" for my working dogs 5 years ago. Our 2 current HV rescues and our Teckel now don't receive any tick preventor "medicine" but are still regularly wormed (Drontal). Yes, it can be a pain removing ticks but frankly, there's not been that many over that time and I'm personally convinced that many were actually coming from our local walks and not from stalking. I'm also (thankfully) seeing less ticks on carcasses shot; roe are undoubtedly the worst followed by fallow (albeit much reduced) and virtually all muntjac are clean. I have been collecting ticks for the UKHSA tick surveillance trials for many years. Indeed, last year was the first for many years that I didn't find any embedded ticks on me!

Similarly, I've also stopped paying pet health insurance and have banked the premiums ever since, building up a sizeable 4-figure reserve which thankfully (so far) has not been needed.

In short, vet advice was that UK ticks are unlikely to cause dogs health issues (at present) so why are you buying expensive potential poisons for your dog?

We had the same result using Bravecto on our HWV so the vet recommended using Advantix, we had no further issues.

No problems using Bravecto on our GWP.

I lost a lab last year to louping ill as did 3 other people I know so I would contest the idea that ticks aren’t an issue. The effectiveness of treatments in stopping louping ill is questionable but ticks are a growing concern

Wednesday was Bravecto for our two big ones, £180.00 incl worming tabs for later. Wern vets in Ruthin have been pretty good for holding costs down while we have been registered for the last four years.
Visiting in next two weeks with the Teckels for the same treatment.

Why people buy bravecto etc from the vet and not via a prescription and buy online baffles me. Its literally half the price.
We have our dogs treatments injected, from a trusted source, along with a basic health check including having them weighed heart listened to etc, so not an overly expensive exercise.

Because not all vets will give you the prescription to go buy it ...not from them .

For many getting prescription is the problem. ...and i lf you live rural and not many choices of vet round you ....what do you do ?

Bear in mind that's just a cap on the fee for the prescription. There will be other fees still such as consult/examination fees (which if you're using a professional, you should expect). Plus it will favour corporates further as they own the online pharmacies. The CMA are sodding useless.

I'm a big fan of an individualised risk-based approach to treating pets for/against parasites rather than the blanket treatment seen with many health plans. However, do be careful regarding ticks.

Good job on the insurance.

Are you aware of any more recent research beyond this 2018 paper please?

I've had a scan through. I'm not completely up to date with this topic so I'd have to go searching for anything newer but it's worth noting that paper is mostly USA focused so there will be differences between there and here and not all conclusions automatically apply. However, broadly speaking, the principles look on point. Whilst that paper deals with Borrelia, there are other conditions transmitted by ticks too.

My vet gives 1 large Bravecto to split between my two Spaniels. Decent bloke. Mind you they are still spendy.

Is this correct ,watching the news a this moment and the sub titles stated

They will be later this year. Not capped yet.

Expect those not charging that much to put their prices up.

And that's for the prescription, not the medicines. You still have to pay for them.
